Ladies and gents, here we have someone who is not the target market for the Steam Machine. As a fellow PC enthusiast, I can't justify this thing financially but I'm also not willing to be tech support to the mostly-console user that I convince to build & use a PC. If it's within someone's means, this is an easy recommendation for a "my first PC" gamer.
It was going to be expensive, even before the RAM/Storage-pocalypse. I agree with this article though; there's value to be had with the console-like experience. This is a gateway drug, not a hardcore machine. That may be disappointing... But we have PCpartpicker to build something better.
