Funny you mention Clooney. Right after he made his big-screen splash in From Dusk Til Dawn, there was talk about casting him in a proposed Green Hornet movie. I would’ve loved that if he played GH with the same vibe as his character in FDTD, a button-pushing troublemaker. Instead he played Batman (I thought his Bruce Wayne was the best part of the loony cartoony over-the-top Batman & Robin with Ah-nold dropping ‘cold’ puns at a breakneck pace) and Green Hornet went into mothballs for another 15 years. The version we got was execrable, with a bumbling unlikable lead who (I was dreading the moment in the movie and was disappointed to have my fears rewarded) has a weenie moment of “Help, Kato!” Wow, what a hero. Thanks for ruining one of my childhood heroes by making him an ineffectual knob completely reliant on his sidekick. Kind of like they did with The Lone Ranger. Haven’t we done the ‘deconstructionist’ takedown of the traditional hero archetype enough in modern movies. How about heroes who are heroes?
