About Simone de Rochefort

Simone de Rochefort is a New York-based video creator, and has been writing and producing videos for Polygon channel since 2016. She created Shelf Quest, Polygon's flagship interview series that takes audiences on a gaming nostalgia trip. Most recently for Polygon, she directed Battle of the Boroughs, a documentary about the kids and teachers competing to win NYC Public Schools' Minecraft competition. In 2024, she and colleague Clayton Ashley won the New York Videogame Critics' Circle Award for Games Journalism for their documentary The Great Game: The Making of Spycraft.

What's your origin story?

I grew up with a younger brother, sharing the family computer and watching each other play games. As a teen, my family moved to France and I used City of Heroes to keep up with my friends back in the States. From a young age, I loved using games to connect with others and have fun.

What's a recent obsession?

My current obsession is Warframe, a free-to-play ninja space shooter that gives you so much more space opera and cyborg fashion than you would expect from the key art.
