Do you have a story idea for Nature India’s news team? We’d like to hear from you.
We accept topical news pitches from freelance science journalists and writers with a proven track record of journalism or inquiry-based science writing.
A strong pitch should clearly articulate the core news point, highlight its significance for Nature India’s audience, and address the crucial ‘why now’ and ‘so what’ questions. Your pitch should reflect the news story, not a broad topic. We accept India-focused ideas. The keywords to keep in mind are ‘India’, ‘science / technology’ and ‘news’.
Our news stories typically range from 600 to 800 words. We encourage suggestions for accompanying visual material (pictures, infographics, videos). News features are between 800 and 1200 words.
What we look for in a strong pitch:
- A working headline where possible.
- A standfirst of 50 words with the key news point.
- A brief explanation of your story within 100 words that clarifies why it must be told now and what makes it relevant for our audience.
- Links to research papers or evidence on which the pitch is based, your interview plans, and a list of specific sources you would rely on.
- A clear timeline.
If you are pitching to us for the first time, please include links to some of your recent journalistic/writing work.
Commentaries
Commentary articles are solicited by Nature India’s editorial team and primarily focus on science, policy and society. We reach out to experts in the field to comment on topical issues. Though we love to hear ideas about what Nature India should solicit commentaries on, we may not be able to directly respond to commentary pitches.
Research Highlights
Many of our research highlights are written by internal writers. We also use AI to create summaries for some of our research highlights with oversight from human editors.
