A few days ago, I shared a poll asking what matters most when hiring a freelancer. After looking at the responses, I kept thinking about one thing: A portfolio shows me what you can do. Reviews tell me what it’s like to work with you. And honestly, I think you need both. A strong portfolio can show your skills, creativity, and the quality of your work. But reviews tell a different story. They give you an idea of whether someone is reliable, communicates well, meets deadlines, and actually makes the process easy for their clients. The interesting part? A lot of freelancers have only one of these. They either have great work but very little social proof — or they have good reviews but don’t have a strong place to showcase what they can actually do. That’s why I think the strongest personal brand combines capability + credibility. But I’m curious: Do you agree, or is there a third thing that matters even more when hiring someone? #Freelancing #HiringTips #PersonalBranding #FreelanceLife #CareerTips

HOW TO SECURE A CLIENT AS A FREELANCER📌 Securing a client as a freelancer starts with understanding what the client actually needs. Don’t just tell them what you can do, show them how your skill can solve their problem. Before sending a proposal or message, take time to understand their business, identify their needs, and explain clearly how you can help. Your portfolio also matters. Clients want to see evidence that you can deliver, so create a few quality samples that demonstrate your skills, even if you haven’t worked with many clients yet. Keep your communication professional, simple, and focused on the value you can provide. Finally, don’t be afraid of rejection. Not every client will choose you, and that’s normal. Keep improving your skills, send targeted proposals, communicate confidently, and consistently put yourself where potential clients can find you. The goal isn’t just to get any client, it’s to build trust and become someone clients want to work with again. #SkillLancehub #Freelancing #Remotejob

Shout out to everyone making vague posts looking for freelance talent, and then never replying to 95%+ of them ✌🏼 Frustrating puts it mildly. All of these posts create a feeling of abundance and a bustling creative network, but I can’t help feel a growing sense that it’s outsourcing human effort to find a genuinely good fit. Putting the onus on freelancers to beg for a chance to have their work considered, only to be largely ignored, even when you do everything ‘right’. It costs absolutely nothing to acknowledge those creatives putting in the time and effort to respond to calls ASKING for them to reach out with their work. Is it just me?!

One freelancer doing three jobs isn’t always more efficient. You hire someone to manage social media. Then suddenly they’re also: Writing the copy. Designing the graphics. Editing the videos. Planning the strategy. Managing the community. Analysing the results. At some point, you haven’t hired someone for one role. You’ve hired an entire marketing team in one person. And sometimes, that works. There are brilliant multidisciplinary freelancers who can confidently work across several areas. But “they can do it” and “they should be responsible for all of it” are two different things. Before combining multiple roles into one hire, ask yourself: Does the project genuinely benefit from overlapping skills? Or are you combining three jobs because hiring one person feels easier? Sometimes one versatile freelancer is exactly what you need. Other times, two specialists will get you a much better result. The goal isn’t to hire fewer people. It’s to hire the right skills for the work. Need freelance talent for your next project? If I lost every freelance client and had to start over from $0: Here's exactly what I'd do. 1. I'd pick one thing I know I'm good at. Not everything I've ever done in marketing. One service I know I can confidently do and deliver. 2. I'd start looking for people who need it. I'd apply to jobs. Reach out to businesses. Tell people in my network what I'm doing. And I'd probably say yes to a few projects that weren't my "dream clients." Because at the beginning, all I'd need is proof. Get a client. Do really good work. Get a result. Get a testimonial. Turn that into the reason the next person should hire me. Then repeat. Eventually, I'd raise my rates. Get pickier about clients. Improve my processes. Expand my services. Build the brand around what was actually working. But I wouldn't worry about any of that on day one. If I had to start over, I'd focus on one thing: Proof that someone is willing to pay me. Then I'd build from there. #freelancing #careergrowth #marketing

Stop asking, “Who’s the best freelancer?” Start asking: “Who’s right for this project?” Because the freelancer with the biggest portfolio might not understand your industry. The person with the most experience might not have the right experience. And the highest-rated option might not match your budget, timeline or way of working. Hiring isn’t about finding the objectively “best” freelancer. It’s about finding someone who understands your project, your goals and what you actually need delivered. That’s why more options don’t always make hiring easier. The right match does. Have a project in mind? Finding an available freelancer is one thing. Recommending someone you would trust with your client is another. I hadn’t shared this feedback yet but it captures exactly what a good freelance introduction should achieve. A creative agency needed specialist support for a client-facing presentation project. The requirement was specific. The standard needed to be high. And bringing someone new into client-facing work always carries an element of risk. I took the time to understand what was needed and recommended a freelancer I believed could deliver. They did exactly that. On brief. On time. And to a high standard. The client said my recommendation gave them the confidence to bring someone new into the work and that they will return to CDR for future resourcing needs. That is what a successful freelance introduction should do. Not add more profiles to review. Not create more uncertainty. Give a business confidence that the person being introduced has been carefully considered and can deliver what is needed. Permanent, contract or freelance, every person I introduce carries my recommendation with them. If your team has a capability gap or an important project requiring the right specialist, talk to me. CDR helps agencies and brands find, assess and secure professionals across creative, digital, media and technology. #FreelanceTalent #CreativeDigitalRecruitment #CDR

Hiring a freelancer sounds simple, until you actually have to do it. Search through profiles. Compare portfolios and prices. Contact multiple people. Explain the same requirement repeatedly. Manage deadlines, quality and delivery yourself. The problem isn’t a shortage of talent. The problem is the time and uncertainty involved in finding and managing the right talent. What if you could simply explain what you need, and let one accountable team handle everything after that? 2 days to go. What has been your biggest challenge: finding the right person, managing the project or ensuring quality? #FutureOfWork #Freelancing #BusinessSolutions #ComingSoon

Freelancers Are Not Employees — And That’s the Point. Freelancing is not simply a different way of having a job. It is a way of building experience through projects, collaborations, and real-world results. A freelancer is brought in to contribute to a specific project, solve a particular challenge, or provide specialized expertise. The goal is not necessarily to become part of the company’s permanent workforce, but to deliver value and create meaningful work. For many professionals, especially those building their careers, freelance projects can become an important part of their professional portfolio. Every project can demonstrate: 🎯 A specific skill 🎬 A real-world application 🤝 Collaboration with clients or teams 💡 Problem-solving and creativity 📈 Results and professional growth And that is why I believe freelancers should not look at every project only as a source of income. A good project can also become a strong addition to your portfolio. The experience, the challenges, the process, and the final result can demonstrate what you are capable of far better than a list of job titles alone. Of course, freelance work should always have clear expectations, defined responsibilities, fair compensation, and professional agreements. Ultimately, whether you are an employee, freelancer, consultant, or independent professional, what matters is the value you bring and the work you can demonstrate. Build experience. Build projects. Build your portfolio. Build your career. #Freelancing #Freelancer #Portfolio #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerGrowth #CreativeProfessionals #ProjectBasedWork #WorkExperience #PersonalBranding #Networking #CareerDevelopment #CreativeIndustry #MediaProduction #ContentCreation #DigitalMedia #Videography #Marketing #ProfessionalGrowth

How do you choose the right freelancer? Price matters, but it shouldn't be the only factor. Before hiring, consider: ✅ Do they have experience with similar projects? ✅ Can you review examples of their previous work? ✅ Do they understand what you're trying to achieve? ✅ Is their communication clear? ✅ Does their proposed timeline make sense? ✅ Do they have a good reputation? A freelancer offering the lowest price isn't necessarily offering the best value. Look for the right combination of skill, understanding, reliability and value.
