Building accessible sites has always been the right thing to do, but its probably been more accurate to describe it as a compliance project. But accessibility now has a strong link to AI visibility. The patterns used to determine authoritative sources by AI search platforms are almost identical to the patterns that make a website accessible. If you prompt AI with no context you will get probabilistic and generic content. AKA, AI Slop. You need to invest time in building your harness, your context files to enrich and personalise your content output. And I get it, today, we feel compelled to show we're using AI and demonstrate the value. Therefore, we go quick, justify volume over quality and rely on the initial LLM output. Take time now to invest in the scaffolding, context and systems to ensure quality that scales.

The European Union has published new draft guidelines under the AI Act focused on transparency requirements for AI systems and AI-generated content. The proposed guidance would require providers and deployers to clearly inform people when they are interacting with AI systems or viewing AI-generated or manipulated content, including deepfakes and certain AI-generated public-interest content. It also encourages the use of machine-readable labels to improve detection and transparency online. What do you think about these proposed transparency obligations under the EU AI Act? There's one big problem with AI marketing and creative that NO ONE is talking about... It's not that it is technically inferior to human-made. It's that people trust other people. They do not actually trust technology. Humans can be held accountable. Machines can not. So when people find out that all of your marketing is not made by a human, they start to lose trust in your brand. It's not the glaring structural issues that are going to be the downfall of brands that use AI. It's the long term degridation of their integrity. A deck with a bad support beam is obvious and easy to replace; a foundation with poor quality concrete takes time to break down, but once it does, it's total, and the whole house built on it is ruined.

Everytime I read AI generated or AI rephrased content, I am eerily reminded of Newspeak. It is the language in the 1984 dystopian world, built to limit how people think, by gradually reducing the words with which they can express ideas. What we are seeing today isn't as extreme, no one is controlling our language. But we sure have started defaulting to a narrower version of it.

Why am I am finding different people writing in the same mode and style? Is our professional group outsourcing its self writing culture? Are we that interested in promoting ourselves that everything has to be perfect, even if it has to be filtered through AI??
