Grand Street Settlement’s Post

This #ImpactFriday, we're featuring someone who's had a profound impact on Grand Street Settlement's community—State Senator Brian Kavanagh. In collaboration with fellow settlement houses, partner organizations, and elected officials, our Baruch Elder Services Team (BEST) NORC hosted a food distribution in his honor to thank Senator Kavanagh for his years of service to his constituents. Participants celebrated Senator Kavanagh with a homemade going-away present and a dedicated dance performance. CEO Robert Cordero surprised Senator Brian Kavanagh with a Friendly Heart Award, an award inspired by our children's book, My First Day the Grand Street Way. The Friendly Heart Award is for those who go above and beyond in supporting Grand Street's high-quality programming while embodying the Grand Street Way. ❤️ Thank you for being bold, grand, and inspired, Senator Kavanagh!

  • Two smiling men hold a framed "Friendly Heart Award" certificate at an outdoor community event, flanked by a small group of people with colorful tents and trees blurred in the background.
  • A diverse group of smiling community members pose outdoors with a large handmade poster and framed certificate honoring a retiring local senator, an elderly woman using a walker standing centered in front.
  • Community food-distribution event in a city lot, officials and volunteers gathered under trees and high-rise apartments as a man speaks into a microphone while others, including women in colorful traditional dresses, stand beside a sign reading "Senator Kavanagh Tribute Food Distribution."

Thank you Brian Kavanagh and all of our amazing partners. Addressing food insecurity, while building community together!
