Corston Architectural Detail’s Post

Our stylist and set designer, Edith Langford (we know her as Eddy), joined interior designer Olivia Caplan to talk about finding your style. To start, it helps to choose a focal point: an architectural detail or a meaningful object that anchors the space. Next, think about how to introduce character, which often comes from natural materials and original features. In Olivia’s Victorian renovation, materials such as wood, stone, linen and antique brass have helped reinstate warmth, patina and a sense of heritage. When it comes to pattern, Olivia likes to be bold, with patterns on walls and even ceilings, while Eddy prefers a softer touch, like a hint of wallpaper inside a wardrobe or on cabinet doors. Eddy notes a growing appetite for playful, small-scale patterns, with burgundy emerging as a key tone in 2026. But when navigating new trends, ‘keep your core principles strong,’ says Olivia. That means having timeless foundations, like flooring, switches and sockets. But above all, trust your instincts. 'Get a feel for what you’re personally drawn to,’ says Olivia. ‘What's important is that it makes you feel something when you look at it'.
