Simplifying a move off legacy infrastructure is still just a different form of lock-in. Escaping one vendor ecosystem only to become dependent on another isn't freedom.
For decades, enterprise IT has been sold this same story: leave Vendor A, move to Vendor B, and you'll finally have control. But control was never really the outcome. Every migration just resets the clock on a new set of dependencies, a new roadmap you don't own, and a new set of costs you don't control.
Technology decisions should increase an organisation's options, not narrow them.
Real software independence isn't about which company you depend on. It's about whether you can make your own decisions, on your own timeline, based on what your business needs, not what a vendor's product cycle dictates.
That's a much higher bar than "which platform am I on." And it's the one worth aiming for.
