VCs Become Media Companies by Telling Founder Stories

This title was summarized by AI from the post below.

VC firms are going to become media companies. When you look at what big VC firms of the US like YC does or what A16Z, you’ll notice that they create content around the things they know, the founders they work with and the problems they see. Not just who they invested in.  It works because it’s simply solved the access problem.  In India, I still think there is a massive gap & we can just copy that same US-playbook here.  If a VC invests in a company, don’t make the entire story be a press release saying, “We invested ₹X million” Bring  the founder(s) & talk about how they built the company, what they learned, what worked, what didn't work. Now the founder gets to tell their story, the VC gets to show the kind of founders it works with, and the audience gets something useful out of it. PS. You can just start with your portfolio companies themselves. They can become your biggest content engine as VC firms.

Running The Founder and The Funder taught us the same thing, founders say things in conversation they would never put in a press release. Portfolio storytelling is still wide open in India Aryan Anurag

There’s also a trust angle here. The more a VC consistently shares how it thinks, what it has learned, and even where its bets went wrong, the easier it becomes for founders to understand the firm before ever approaching them.

A press release announces the check, a founder story sells the fund. Indian VCs sitting on portfolio companies full of unused stories while running paid ads for deal flow is the part that doesn't add up.

Is there any VC which are investing on the product which raise the voice of customer and give them purchasing power? Their profits matter most to them rather giving any service to society.

Absolutely. The strongest portfolio content is not “we invested in them.” It is the lived insight, hard lessons, and founder stories that make the ecosystem smarter.

Capital is a commodity; media and earned audience attention are the true moat. Turning portfolio company stories into actionable, open-source playbooks is the best deal-flow strategy a VC firm can build today. Fantastic post!

VC firms can compound distribution by becoming trusted media brands, but the content has to teach founders something real. Portfolio stories work best when they reveal decisions, tradeoffs, and lessons, not just celebrate the investment.
