Susan Wedge reposted thisSusan Wedge reposted thisTechnology alone doesnt modernize government. People, partnerships, and execution do. I’m proud of the IBM team that led the successful modernization of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) core inmate information system. This milestone reflects years of collaboration between the BOP, IBM, and AWS, bringing together deep modernization expertise and cloud capabilities to help transform a critical technology environment and position the agency to meet evolving mission needs. The strongest outcomes come from shared execution and accountability, not transactional relationships. This effort is a reminder of what government and industry can accomplish when they work together from planning through delivery. The BOP recently shared more about this milestone and the impact it is having across the agency: https://ibm.biz/~J4HWuxzfb #IBMConsulting #AWSPartners #FederalIT #CloudModernization #ApplicationModernization Dan Kusel Bhuvana Chandar Dan Bailey, MBA Jennifer Mahoney Anton Cwu Stacey Slipakoff Harbeson, PMP Hiram F. Susan Wedge posted thisJust wrapped IBM's webinar, How Can Federal Agencies Accelerate Their Quantum Readiness Journey? Practical Steps Federal Agencies Can Take Today to Prepare for a Quantum-Safe Future, with Vanessa Hunt and Daniel Chenok. One theme stood out during the discussion: there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to post-quantum cryptography (#PQC). Every agency starts from a different place – with different systems, priorities, and risks. #Quantumreadiness really starts with understanding your environment, identifying your most critical assets, and building a practical roadmap that aligns with your mission. The good news? Agencies don't need to solve everything at once — or go it alone. The most successful transitions will be phased, prioritized, and supported by strong industry partnership. As a leader in quantum computing and PQC, IBM helped shape the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards guiding this transition and we’re working with agencies today to turn quantum readiness from a future goal into practical action. Thank you to everyone who joined us today! If you weren't able to attend, you can watch the webinar on demand here: https://ibm.biz/~kSrrWtXQ4

Susan Wedge reposted thisSusan Wedge reposted thisIBM applauds the Administration's Executive Order on AI and cybersecurity. As AI becomes more foundational to all of us, including business and government, securing it — and the open source software our society depends on — is essential to maintaining trust and ensuring U.S. leadership. Our company is committed to building and deploying AI systems responsibly. We look forward to supporting the federal effort to secure the nation's digital infrastructure, and advancing our complementary push to secure open source software for the AI era.

Susan Wedge posted thisFederal agencies are under increasing pressure to do more with less, while still improving outcomes and strengthening trust. On April 30th at 2:00pm, I will join Vanessa Hunt and Daniel Chenok for a webinar: Reimagining a more efficient government, where AI tackles improper payments and beyond. Improper payments are not a standalone issue. They’re a symptom of broader inefficiencies that are holding agencies back ,and AI is uniquely positioned tackle those challenges head on. In this conversation we’ll discuss how AI can detect fraud, help close cybersecurity gaps, unlock data sharing and interoperability, and more. Join us next Thursday to learn how your agency can turn fragmented environments into systems that are more efficient, coordinated, and secure. Susan Wedge shared thisThrilled to share two important milestones for IBM as we continue supporting national security and defense initiatives! IBM was selected to support both the Missile Defense Agency’s SHIELD program and the Defense Commissary Agency’s Electronic Shelf Label modernization. Though these missions are different, they share a common thread: helping defense organizations move with greater speed, accuracy, and confidence in an increasingly complex environment. By modernizing retail technology infrastructure across commissaries worldwide, we’re helping to ensure accurate pricing, operational efficiency, and a better experience for military families: https://ibm.biz/Bdpi3U. Together, these awards underscore IBM’s commitment to delivering innovation with purpose: strengthening mission readiness and improving quality of life for those who serve. Proud of our teams as we continue to support both DeCA and MDA in their critical missions.IBM Awarded Defense Commissary Agency Contract to Modernize Electronic Shelf Label SystemIBM Awarded Defense Commissary Agency Contract to Modernize Electronic Shelf Label System

Susan Wedge shared thisModernizing #federal HR systems starts with security and compliance. Shared services platforms streamline core HR functions and give agencies secure, pre‑vetted capabilities that support responsible AI adoption and accelerate responsible innovation across the federal government. It takes public‑private collaboration to make it work. Join us on Jan. 28 for IBM #ThinkGov at Nationals Park in DC, where Gary D. Cohn will discuss the importance of public‑private partnerships. Collaboration is essential as agencies advance HR modernization efforts through shared services and improved workforce operations. Register here: https://ibm.biz/BdbN95

Susan Wedge liked thisSusan Wedge liked thisIt was a pleasure hosting fellow Buckeyes from the Finance Honors Program at The Fisher College of Business this month. We spent some time covering IBM's history of financial innovations, from the ATM and UPC to enabling Social Security with punch cards and tabulators… … but we spent most of the day talking about what’s ahead, and the importance of showing up with purpose and intellectual curiosity. It’s an exciting time to be at the intersection of business and technology. Enterprise AI success demands smart capital allocation and portfolio optimization. That means Finance professionals are moving from functional partners to value creators. We also discussed the I-shaped skills framework. Yes, broad AI fluency is essential. But deep domain expertise and principled leadership are more important than ever.

Governments and public institutions carry some of the hardest and most consequential work there is, from national security and public safety to higher education, health and the life sciences. I’ve long believed that the people doing this work deserve the best technology available, and I see a real opportunity for AI to support them in serving their missions and the communities who rely on them. Technology this meaningful for both urgency and care, and getting it right in the public sector matters as much as anywhere. I’ll be working across the public sector ecosystem, with customers, partners and industry leaders, to help put Claude to work on those missions. But a lot has changed, both at IBM and with me. I’m excited to dig in and discover what this new IBM-Ken combination can do. If you’ve followed me on LinkedIn, you know how deeply I’ve been exploring AI and how it can change our world. In this role with IBM, I want to help government navigate that change. It’s an important puzzle: advancing an incredibly powerful technology while protecting ourselves and keeping New Yorkers at the center of the equation. To my EY colleagues: thank you. Seven years, a ton of varied experiences, and genuinely some of the best people I've worked with. The send-off meant more than you know. There’s a lot to do and build. Ever notice how federal small-business contracting goals sound straightforward on paper… but often look messy in practice? Over the past few days, we’ve seen several developments: • enforcement activity around the 8(a) program • new oversight on who is actually performing work on set-aside contracts • changes in how agencies are measured on small-business participation All of these policies are intended to strengthen the system. And in many ways, they do. But after more than three decades working inside federal operations, I’ve seen something else at play. Federal contracting decisions don’t happen in a vacuum. They happen at the intersection of three competing pressures inside every agency: • leadership responsible for executing budgets • program teams responsible for delivering mission outcomes • contracting offices responsible for compliance and small-business goals Individually, each of these priorities makes sense. Together, they create a system that is far more complex than most policy discussions acknowledge. I wrote a short piece explaining how these pressures collide—and why that matters for companies entering the federal marketplace. Link to the article below.

Federal agencies are delivering mission outcomes in an environment defined by constraint. Budget pressure, workforce gaps, cyber risk, and evolving acquisition rules are not slowing execution. They are shaping how technology is being deployed in practice. Across the public sector, agencies are focusing less on standalone tools and more on integrated solutions that improve speed, resilience, and decision-making. This includes greater use of automation, AI-enabled analytics, zero trust architectures, and hybrid cloud environments designed to operate within existing constraints. What stands out is the shift from experimentation to execution. Agencies are applying technology to: • Improve situational awareness and data-driven decisions • Strengthen cyber resilience without adding operational complexity • Modernize infrastructure while maintaining continuity of operations • Deliver measurable outcomes aligned to mission priorities For prime contractors supporting these missions, execution increasingly depends on efficient, compliant access to broad technology ecosystems. This is where distribution and aggregation matter. At Ingram Micro Public Sector, we work behind the scenes to help primes reduce friction in sourcing, simplify access to secure and interoperable technologies, and stay focused on delivery rather than procurement mechanics. Recent DefenseScoop reporting reinforces this shift toward practical innovation, highlighting how agencies are prioritizing AI, cyber resilience, and infrastructure modernization to deliver mission outcomes despite budget and workforce constraints. https://defensescoop.com/ #PublicSector #FederalIT #MissionDelivery #GovTech #DigitalTransformation #Cybersecurity #AI #PrimeContractors
