The No.1 killer of sales success? Talking when you should be listening. Salespeople are literally talking themselves out of deals. We’ve got 5 tactics to help you listen more effectively: 1. The Awkward Pause Method After they answer, wait 5 full seconds. Most reps jump in after 0.8 seconds. Those extra 4 seconds? That's where the gold lives. 2. Cold calling is dead because you don’t know this. Most calls are unprepared, mistimed, and aimless. The top performers don’t sound confident by accident. They remove uncertainty before they dial. Here’s what actually makes cold calls work: 1. Context before conversation: - Know why this person should care right now. - If you can’t explain that in one line, don’t call yet. 2. A clear reason to continue: - You’re not calling to pitch. - You’re calling to earn the next 30 seconds. 3. Control of the next step: - Good calls don’t “see what happens.” - They end with a decision, not a maybe. Most cold calls fail before they start because the caller is hoping, not leading.
