Nina Vaca shared thisFor a long time, I made the mistake of thinking I was a self-made woman. The truth is, I am not self-made. I am legacy-made. I am the daughter of parents who sacrificed more than I will ever fully know so that I could have the freedom to dream, to work, to build, and to become an entrepreneur in this country. My father gave his life to this nation. My mother made countless sacrifices, many of them quiet and unseen. And before them came generations of people whose courage, resilience, faith, and hope created the foundation I stand on today. To be included in Forbes’ list of America’s Most Successful Living Immigrants is deeply humbling. When I look at the names on this list, I am reminded that immigrant success is never an individual story alone. It is a family story. A community story. A story of sacrifice, perseverance, and possibility. This recognition is not just about what I have built. It is about who built me. It is about the people who joined me in this journey stood by my side, family and chosen family, endured hardship, those who opened doors for me and believed that the next generation could go further. I am proud to be an immigrant. I am proud to be an entrepreneur. I am proud to be American. And today, more than anything, I am grateful. I am not self-made. I am legacy-made. Nina Vaca liked thisThis will be my first Father’s Day without my dad. To be honest, I’m still processing that reality. My father, Juventino “Tino” Tamez, passed away in December at the age of 101. For more than half a century, he was simply a constant in my life. No matter where I lived, what job I held, or what challenges I faced, he was there. People often talk about grief as something you work through. I’m learning that sometimes grief is something you carry. I don’t know that I have fully come to terms with his loss yet. Some days it feels impossible that a man who seemed larger than life is no longer here. Other days, I find myself smiling at a memory, a witty joke, or one of the many lessons he taught me through the example of his life. What I know for certain is this: I was fortunate to be his daughter. This Father’s Day, I’m grateful for the years we had, the sacrifices he made, and the legacy he leaves behind in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I miss you, Papi. Happy Father’s Day.

Last week, I joined FOX 11 Los Angeles - KTTV to share how Bank of America has been building on that excitement and helping more people across the area connect with this tournament by: ⚽Hosting countless watch parties and sponsoring the U.S. Soccer House official fan site in Venice Beach with U.S. Soccer Federation ⚽Giving away 4,500+ free tickets for local veterans, active duty and first responders in partnership with Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) and FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States ⚽Offering our free (and very popular) BofA Fan Bands and localized beads at the Los Angeles FIFA Fan Festival™ Beyond the tournament, we’re building new fields in host cities across the U.S. in partnership with Street Soccer USA and Visa, and hosting free youth clinics to inspire the next generation of players. We also launched our Soccer at Schools initiative this spring, aiming to bring soccer to every U.S. school by 2030. Nina Vaca liked thisNina Vaca liked thisFatherhood - the greatest journey of my life — has taught me a thing or two about leadership. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to lead organizations through moments of growth, challenge, and transformation. But no title has ever meant more to me than “Dad.” Like many working parents, I spent years trying to balance the demands of a professional life with the responsibilities and joys of being present at home. I didn’t always get it right. There were missed dinners, delayed vacations, and moments I wish I could have back. I think all the parents can relate. But fatherhood has a way of teaching you that your kids will pay far less attention to what you say than to what you do. These little people will watch how you treat people, how you manage adversity, and whether you follow through on promises. That lesson carries right over to how you show up as a leader. Listening, empathy, and accountability matter in the workplace, too. The same principles that make us better parents often make us better leaders. And I guess my kids made me a better man than any boardroom ever could. To all the fathers and father figures — thank you for the sacrifices, the guidance, and the example you set every day. Happy Father’s Day!
