One of the things I value most about this community is the opportunity to spend time with people who are thinking deeply about where #cybersecurity and #AI are heading, while also making time for the conversations that happen between the sessions. On the state of things in cyber security, and the shape of things to come, I’m pretty worn out trying to keep up with the various commentaries and theories and predictions. That’s why, in yet another demonstration that LLMs still aren’t better at absolutely everything than humans yet, I’m delighted that the brilliant Casey Ellis has written Dichotomies, something that more accurately reflects what I think, and expresses it better, than anything I could get out of Opus 5.5. Dichotomies is the perfect word to describe how I feel. There’s so much FUD going on and all of us have limited capacity and taking it on leaves little time for much else. But for every dollop of FUD there’s a significant and accelerating challenge that demands action. That’s what this piece brings out. Obviously it’s Casey’s work and he wrote it for his own reasons and I don’t agree with literally every word (just almost all of them) but it’s exceptional - if you’re tracking the cyber controversy, go read it! https://lnkd.in/eCQaDh3Q

Larry Letow liked thisLarry Letow liked thisMore information ≠ better decisions. Organizations have never had so much information. We’ve become remarkably good at producing it. Dashboards. Reports. And now, AI-generated insights. But are we making better decisions? Research on 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥 has shown for decades that too much information can lead to worse decision-making. Yet we keep investing in generating more of it, often without asking which decisions it should support. Perhaps we need to reverse the process. Start with the outcome, then work backwards: 1. What are we trying to achieve? 2. What decisions will get us there? 3. What information do we actually need? 4. What can we safely ignore? Attention is limited. As AI makes information easier and cheaper to generate, the ability to create clarity becomes more valuable. Perhaps the real measure of an information-rich organization isn't how much it knows, but how well it separates what matters from what doesn't. - - - - - - 🖼️ Illustration by the talented Quoted Visually (give her a follow!).

So these guys have been studying and practising crypto heists for a decade. They’ve been getting and better. Since 2016 they’ve done somewhere between two and three dozen $100m plus robberies. They’ve been researching every last aspect of crypto infrastructure to see where the weak points are. And now after exercising massive strategic patience and planning what in their warped view of the world is the perfect operation, they’ve hit the jackpot. They’re going to be feted in Pyongyang and given medals as the great heroes. Their specialisation has paid off, big time. They’re the best in the world at this. And then they read western cyber social media and the half of it that only started paying attention when Anthropic delayed Claude Mythos Preview think it’s all because of AI and anyone could do what they’ve done because the machine god makes it easy
