Every quarter, I take our employees through our most recent earnings results. There's always a story behind the numbers. This time, much of the story was weather. At the end of the day, our business did what it was supposed to do. The fleet ran well. The platform performed. And our new assets are now in the door, and we’re focused on integrating, which puts us in a good position heading into the rest of the year. None of that happens without the NRG Energy team showing up and doing the work, quarter after quarter. Thanks to Jon deJong and Dennis Hwang for breaking down how weather actually shows up in our results - the what, the how, and the why. It's one of the most important things in our business.

Growth in renewable energy across Texas in recent years has been incredible. But renewables fluctuate, so natural gas power plants act as flexible, on-demand safety nets to maintain grid stability. Last week NRG Energy opened its first new natural gas units in a decade, and Axios’ Shafaq Patel penned an interesting piece on the new facility, which is very much needed in growth-heavy Texas. https://lnkd.in/eaF_ASCD

A common theme I’ve been hearing at CERAWeek is that moving data is easier than moving power: it makes sense to build data centers where a rich energy supply already exists, and there is also an opportunity to build in a way that fills in gaps in the grid. NRG’s Larry Coben speaks to why data centers bringing their own power will ultimately help consumers in this interview with Yahoo! Finance.

New capacity is now online at TH Wharton, delivering 456 MW of dispatchable, flexible power for Houston when it’s needed most. A strong outcome from the team. This is the kind of generation Texas is prioritizing through the Texas Energy Fund and a clear example of how NRG can deliver fast, dispatchable capacity that strengthens reliability and supports economic growth. Most importantly, the team delivered this project safely, on budget, and on schedule. This reflects strong coordination across our teams and partners, along with a shared commitment to doing the job the right way. Credit to the leadership of Robert Patrick, the sponsorship from Robert Gaudette, and the hard work from many others across NRG Energy who made this happen. Execution like this matters. It’s what keeps the grid strong and ready for Texas’ continued growth. https://lnkd.in/ge8FqsVE

Enjoyed kicking off this year's Reliant Energy #BeatTheHeat program in #Houston today with City of Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Houston Health Dept. Director Theresa Tran, MD, MBA, FACEP. Our longstanding partnership with city officials across #Texas enables us to support access to cooling centers and provide valuable resources for those who need it most during the summer months. Statewide, Reliant is donating $200,000 to support 52 cooling centers and nearly 2,000 cooling devices. Energized by today's fireside chat at SXSW! ⚡ I joined David Porter from EPRI to discuss Google's work on the "Energy Evolution of Data Centers." We explored how we can accelerate innovation to ensure data centers aren't just passive energy consumers, but active contributors to a more resilient grid. The goal? National and state-level strategies that optimize for speed and scale while supporting a reliable, affordable and clean energy system for all customers. Thanks to everyone who joined the conversation! https://lnkd.in/gbGTEm9B
