Mark Arnold shared thisHow are you planning to have a "bigger footprint" next year? I think this hairy guy might have a few ideas... Happy Halloween if you celebrate...and stay safe out there (from Bigfoot, relevancy-killing hazards and other dangers).

Mark Arnold shared thisI couldn't be happier that Jonathan Machen is on our team. He not only provides incredible visual design to clients, but he helps design much of our On The Mark Strategies material (including the template for this bio series). And he only continues to step it up every day. Thank you Jonathan!

Mark Arnold shared thisLove the folks over at 5Point Credit Union, and Shawn Temple's Working Genius sessions are incredible experiences that help you understand your team (and yourself) better. I don't love the folks with the genius of Wonder as much...just kidding of course! No guilt or judgment here...that's what Working Genius teaches, after all.Mark Arnold shared thisHung out with 220 of my closest friends at 5Point Credit Union this week and had a blast! We talked about all things The Six Types of Working Genius. We learned📚, we listened 🎧, we judged (a little) 🤔, and we absolutely laughed! 😂 #WorkingGenius is my favorite topic to speak on: true, practical, fun. Can’t beat that combination. Thanks to Amanda L. White, SCMS, CUERC, PHR, SHRM-CP, Erik Shaw and the entire team for the opportunity to be there and share my love for Working Genius (and for enduring my Discernment and Galvanizing all day)!

Mark Arnold shared thisConsistency is one of the largest sales and service problems facing organizations today. Your service has many opportunities to break down, and only a consistent journey map and consistent training will ensure it doesn't. We can help you establish consistency. Mark Arnold shared thisHappy International Credit Union Day! I've been in the credit union world for a long time. I grew up talking about credit unions around the dinner table, started my career in credit unions, worked at many levels in a credit union and a trade association...and now I've spent the past 15 years continuing to serve credit unions at On The Mark Strategies. They are incredible organizations with some of the kindest people you'll ever meet. (I'm serious when I say we have the best clients in the world.) There's a story I tell my team about a credit union that changed someone's life by providing a loan that helped cover adoption fees...allowing that member to adopt their child. That's who we're helping. We're helping those who make a life out of helping others. And it's fulfilling work. Here's to many more years of serving credit unions!

Mark Arnold posted thisQ: What's my favorite horror movie? A: I'll be honest...I don't really enjoy them. But I'll tell you my least favorite because it's the one playing out in real time. It's the terror taking place in so many leadership teams and board rooms across the country. That terror is...complacency. There's a lot of talk about relevancy right now, but you'll never have relevancy later if you play it safe now. Can you invest while others cut? What's the "too crazy" idea no one else is thinking to do right now? Of course, you still need to be realistic. There are limits on budgets and bandwidths. But closely examine those limits. Are they a real obstacle right now? Or are they more of an excuse?

A disengaged board isn’t a governance issue. It’s a 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 issue. Because most board problems start with one of two things: unclear expectations or uninspiring vision. Here’s what strong leaders do to build aligned, activated boards: 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 The first 90 days set the tone. Paint the vision. Define the role. Build the relationship. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 Not just reports and updates— 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 Stop giving every board member the same job. Start asking: “Where can they make the biggest difference?” 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 Nobody wants to be ambushed with an ask. But everyone wants to know their time and influence matter. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 Trust takes time. Culture takes intention. And both take leadership. Your board won’t be more invested in the mission than you are in 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. What’s one thing you’ve done that helped your board step up—not just show up?
