Jim Eades shared thisMichael Owen A fantastic perspective on the skills developed and necessary to oversee a Target retail store. I found my diversity of experience at Venture Stores to be a strong launch pad preparing me for any situation. A store manager at Venture Stores oversaw several businesses within one location. Examples: Hardline general merchandise Apparel and Accessories Jewelry - diamonds and all Guns and ammunition Pharmacy Gas station Auto Service Cafeteria style restaurant Snack bar Bakery - included on site production Hair Salon Liquor - a “Grog Shop” And the “operations functions” like receiving, stocking, planograms, checkouts and returns. And then another tale is that of the multi -unit leadership, the PhD level. Touching these various businesses closely and often to ensure customer service standards and regulatory compliance was a rewarding real life education and bringing others along in their careers became my favorite career focus from the experience …. Thank you for your insights.Jim Eades shared thisA Target Store Director is basically running an MBA case study every day. Except there's no classroom. No spreadsheet exercise. No professor waiting to tell them what they should have done. The salesfloor is real. This isn't a simulation. The doors open. The team shows up. The trucks arrive. Thousands of guests walk in. The P&L is real. The payroll is real. And the problems don't wait for perfect information. A Target Store Director has to understand the guest behaviors, manage a multimillion-dollar business, interpret KPI soup, build schedules, manage payroll, improve productivity, control shrink, develop leaders, hire great people, fix problems and somehow turn all that complexity into a few simple things the team can actually execute. Then comes the scoreboard: sales, profit, payroll, shrink, guest experience, OPU, SFS, team engagement and a whole host of real-time KPIs from the Zebra in the palm of their hand. Every day is the final exam. That's why I think some of the best business operators in America are walking around Target stores wearing a red-and-white name badge. They may not have an MBA hanging on the wall. Although many do. But they've got something a classroom MBA can't manufacture: A track record. Hit the sales goal? A+. Hit the KPI? A+. Develop great leaders? A+. Miss the number? Blood red. There are no Bs, Cs or Ds. It's pass or fail. And if you're a founder looking for a GM or integrator, don't overlook the person running your local Target. The most complex problem in your business might just be Tuesday morning for them.

Jim Eades reposted thisJim Eades reposted thisI'm delighted that Levidian's story has been included in this year's EIC (Energy Industries Council) Survive & Thrive report. Writing our contribution made me reflect on just how much the business has evolved over the last few years. When I joined Levidian, much of the conversation centred on decarbonisation. Today, our LOOP technology continues to decarbonise methane while producing both hydrogen and graphene, but we've also become an advanced materials business in our own right. That wasn't a change of direction. It was recognising where the greatest opportunity lay. We listened to customers, followed the evidence and invested in helping industry understand where graphene can create real commercial value. Today we're working with customers across industry, taking graphene from the laboratory into real industrial applications. I'm incredibly proud of what the team has achieved, and grateful to the customers, partners and colleagues who have been part of that journey. Many thanks to the EIC team for producing another excellent Survive & Thrive report. It's well worth a read if you're interested in how companies continue to adapt and grow in a changing energy landscape. Jim Eades liked thisJim Eades liked thisTaking scalable graphene to India Yesterday, Dr Arun Prakash Aranga Raju, our Technical Lead - Graphene Commercialisation, presented at Nano Carbon Week 2026 in Chennai, hosted by TechnoBiz Carbon Network, a forum bringing together industry and academia from across the rapidly developing nanocarbon sector. Arun’s presentation, “Scalable Graphene: Advanced Materials for Industrial Impact”, shared Levidian’s progress in moving graphene from material science to scalable, commercially relevant products and applications. He explored how we’re scaling the production of consistent, high-quality G3 graphene through our LOOP technology, alongside the performance we’re seeing across applications including batteries, packaging, coatings and construction. A recurring theme throughout the forum was the importance of understanding and characterising nanocarbon materials, and overcoming the practical challenges of integrating them into existing industrial processes. That made the response to our new NanoFlow™ dispersions particularly encouraging, with feedback recognising their potential as a breakthrough in tackling some of the integration and logistics challenges that have historically held back wider graphene adoption. A great opportunity to exchange ideas with leaders from across the carbon industry and share the progress we’re making in turning graphene’s potential into industrial impact. Great job Arun! #Graphene #NanoCarbonWeek #AdvancedMaterials #G3 #NanoFlow #Levidian #India

Jim Eades liked thisJim Eades liked thisThe strongest fundraising pitch answers three questions before a donor ever has to ask. Why are you running. How can they help. What will their support do for the campaign. Be ready for the moment a prospect turns the question back on you and asks, “How can I help?” That is not the time to improvise. Come prepared with two giving options rather than an open-ended amount, and let the donor choose between them. Winning campaigns never put the number back on the prospect. The candidate and the team walk in with an answer already in hand, and that preparation is what closes the ask.

Jim Eades liked thisJim Eades liked thisA fairly stark reminder from the IEA this week, particularly sitting here in the Middle East. Global oil supply is now expected to fall by 5.7 million barrels a day this year. For years we’ve talked about the energy trilemma: affordability, sustainability and security. Recent events are quite a reminder that you don’t get to choose only two. For those of us working on technologies that sit between the existing energy system and what comes next, that feels increasingly important. The transition hasn’t gone away. But neither has the need for secure, reliable and affordable energy. https://lnkd.in/d4xg8HNbOil Market Report - September 2026 – Analysis - IEAOil Market Report - September 2026 – Analysis - IEA

The UAE has announced another €40bn of investment into Germany, alongside 29 new agreements between UAE and German companies worth more than €9bn. At the UK-UAE Clean Energy Working Group in Abu Dhabi this week, somebody made a simple observation: the Germans are very good at this. They show up collectively. Government, industry, technology and investment come together as a proposition. There are some brilliant UK companies operating in the Gulf. But perhaps we could be better at joining the dots between them. Germany appears to be showing us. https://lnkd.in/dVi-9PzfUAE to invest €40 billion in Germany amid slew of business dealsUAE to invest €40 billion in Germany amid slew of business deals

Jim Eades liked thisReally enjoyed this discussion yesterday. There is no doubt it has been a challenging couple of years for clean technology, but my takeaway from the UAE is slightly different. The market here has moved beyond pilot projects and innovation for innovation’s sake. Increasingly, the technologies gaining traction are those with a genuine commercial proposition, particularly where they can be localised, deployed at industrial scale and bring something new to the region. That has certainly been our experience at Levidian. We are producing graphene in the UAE today, building local partnerships and increasingly moving from technology discussions into real industrial applications. For UK businesses, I think that creates a significant opportunity. The UAE has capital, industrial scale and an appetite for technology and innovation. But increasingly it also expects a clear commercial case. There is a lot the UK can bring to that. The trick is turning UK capability into UAE deployment. Great initiative from the British Embassy UAE and very good to meet Ambassador Geraldine McCafferty. Looking forward to staying involved. FRONTIER ENERGY CAPITAL
487 followers
Casey’s General Stores is expanding its footprint in Oklahoma through the acquisition of 20 ASAP convenience stores, including wholesale and commercial fuels and lubricants businesses. This move aligns with Casey’s strategic growth in underdeveloped regions, reflecting a broader industry trend where supply growth is increasingly sourced from frontier markets rather than legacy basins. This acquisition comes amid a global oil supply landscape marked by structural challenges. Recent analysis indicates a significant decline in global oil reserves replacement, with new discoveries failing to keep pace with extraction. For instance, the reserve replacement ratio in 2024 was only 6%, underscoring the urgency of capital allocation to frontier exploration and development. The discovery gap is particularly acute as exploration spending has dropped by 60% over the past decade, with most investment focused on offsetting decline rather than growth. Notably, frontier basins such as Namibia’s Orange Basin and Guyana’s Stabroek Block have emerged as critical new sources of supply. Guyana’s Stabroek Block, operated by ExxonMobil and partners, has yielded approximately 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent, transforming the country into a fast-growing oil producer. Similarly, Namibia’s Orange Basin has seen multiple discoveries, including the Mopane field with an estimated 10 billion barrels of oil in place, signaling the potential of underexplored African basins. ReconAfrica’s recent operational updates highlight active exploration and appraisal in Namibia and Botswana, with significant progress on the Kavango West 1X well and plans for production testing. These developments exemplify the first-mover advantage in frontier markets, where political risk is balanced by substantial resource potential and growing capital flows. Casey’s acquisition strategy, therefore, can be viewed within this broader context of shifting supply dynamics and the increasing importance of frontier energy markets. The company’s growth in Oklahoma complements the global narrative of seeking new supply sources amid declining reserves and rising geopolitical risks in traditional producing regions. title: Marmaduke’s Retail Beer Permit Victory Marks a Shift in Local Policy Content:
In a surprising turn of events, the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) board has reversed a prior ruling by its own director to grant a retail off-premises beer permit to a business in Marmaduke. This overturn underscores the board's willingness to re-evaluate decisions and adapt to community or economic considerations that may not have been fully appreciated initially.

The decision carries significant implications for the small town of Marmaduke, where such permits can heavily influence local commerce and social dynamics. By awarding this permit, the board is essentially endorsing increased access to retail beer sales, which could potentially inject fresh economic activity into the area, providing new revenue streams and attracting more visitors or residents.

However, this move also invites critical reflection on the balance between regulatory oversight and local business growth. Overruling the director suggests there may have been concerns or objections to the permit initially, perhaps related to community standards, public health, or zoning laws. The board’s willingness to challenge those concerns shows a delicate push toward supporting economic development while navigating regulatory frameworks.

Ultimately, this decision by the ABC board might serve as a precedent for similar cases across Arkansas, encouraging a more flexible approach in permit approvals that weigh the vibrancy and needs of local communities. While it's important to remain cautious of potential societal impacts, fostering small business growth in towns like Marmaduke could be a positive catalyst for overall regional development.
