Garrett Goldfield reacted on thisI’m excited to share that I’ve joined Stanley Consultants as the Director of Analytics and Resiliency, where I’ll be leading the firm’s Resilient Analytics division. In this role, I’ll be focused on growing and advancing a practice that leverages data-driven analytics, climate adaptation strategies, and resilience planning to help clients better understand risk, prioritize investments, and strengthen the long-term performance and reliability of critical infrastructure. I’m excited to collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies; transportation authorities; energy utilities; water agencies and utilities; municipalities; and private-sector partners to deliver practical, forward-looking solutions that help communities and infrastructure systems adapt and thrive. Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about bridging analytics, strategy and real-world implementation—and I’m looking forward to building on that work alongside an incredibly talented group of colleagues at Stanley Consultants. Garrett Goldfield liked thisGarrett Goldfield liked thisAs I prepare for the annual IFPA conference, I’m incredibly proud to have served the past three years as a Board Member of The Foundation for Fresh Produce, where I had the opportunity to support a mission that is both simple and bold: growing a healthier world by changing the trajectory of human health through fruits and vegetables. During my service on the Board, I was so fortunate to work alongside such thoughtful and passionate leaders across the produce industry to help drive lasting, meaningful impact towards improving access and affordability, integrating fresh produce into healthcare, and championing partnerships that prioritize nutrition equity. We shared a belief in the power of produce to create seismic change, not just incremental progress. Every effort was rooted in the idea that fruits and vegetables are among the most powerful tools we have to address global health and nutrition challenges. I’m deeply grateful for the chance to contribute to this mission and stand alongside a remarkable team committed to building a future where every person has the opportunity for lifelong health and well-being. This 7-hour online course was led by Garrett Goldfield (Senior UX Specialist with 20+ years of experience), who guided us through the key principles of designing effective, data-heavy applications for both web and desktop platforms. Some highlights that stood out: ✨ Managing visual complexity with hierarchy, progressive disclosure, and smart UI components 💎 Guiding users through complex workflows — forms vs. wizards, long processes, and expectations 📊 Presenting complex data clearly using patterns, filters, and dashboards 🧑💻 Helping users learn new interfaces with contextual help, tutorials, and support for both novices and experts ⚡️ My personal favorites — designing better data tables and dashboards 🙌 Both components are not just UI elements, but thinking and decision-making tools. As someone who immigrated to the US as a teenager, this woman feels a strong sense of purpose working on behalf of international students in higher ed. But at her university it felt like she was “fighting a battle that was unwinnable” to convince the administration to see international students as an asset to the campus community, a population worth investing in. So she left to work for a company that is in an adjacent field, still supporting international students, just more indirectly. Yet the burnout that started back at the university has only gotten worse. She is seeing the same issues, still fighting the same battles. She describes her burnout as a heavy weight that makes her feel hunched over and tired. For her, burnout is when it becomes “tougher and tougher to find that thing that makes you care.” Stay tuned on LinkedIn or Instagram for more emerging data points and findings from my new research on workplace burnout and belonging. It's a study on how and why people decide to quit their jobs--and what they find on the other side.

Looking back at this time fills me with gratitude, joy, and pride. The biggest pleasure was and is working alongside brilliant minds and passionate, kind people. Every day, I'm inspired by our team's dedication, excitement, and creativity. They contributed to the invaluable knowledge and skills I've acquired over these past two years. But it's not just about the work; it's about the people. I've had the privilege of forging lasting connections and friendships with colleagues. Their support, encouragement, and shared laughter have made this journey all the more rewarding. Especially, the times when we get to see each other in person are memorable and enjoyable, such as when we met in Copenhagen shortly after my journey at NN/g began (see the picture below). As I look ahead, I'm excited about the challenges and successes that await us. I've been thinking a lot about why it seems so many design firms end up with websites that look "safe." We all know the ones. They're minimalist to the point of being forgettable, with generic project galleries and copy that seems like it could describe at least 83 other firms. **Full disclosure, my first website was 100% guilty of this. "Intentional digital spaces for creatives." What does that even mean??** I don't think the fear this has anything to do with the design itself, but rather the fear of being misunderstood. Design-build professionals spend their careers translating abstract ideas into physical spaces, and have probably grown used to many clients not "getting it" at first and needing some more convincing. So when it comes to their own brand, there's a tendency to default to the safest possible version, thinking that's what's going to be most accessible to potential clients. However, safe doesn't build trust. Specificity does. When a website says "We create timeless, elegant spaces," it doesn't say much. But when it says "We design mountain homes for families who want to feel like they're on vacation every day," suddenly clients know if they're for you or not. Maybe you're thinking, "But, Hailey, I'm a generalist! I do residential, commercial, and retail spaces..." To you I'd say, the same advice still applies. You need to find your common denominator that underpins all your projects. Maybe its "We create environments where people feel at home, whether they're living in it, working in it, or walking through the door to shop." That way, you're not limiting your project type, instead you're being specific about the outcome your studio delivers across all of them. The designers and brands who will come out on top are not the ones trying to appeal to everyone. They're the ones who are brave enough to say exactly who they serve and how they serve them differently. Your "too specific" is actually your advantage! And the clients who resonate will resonate hard. So, what would your website say if it wasn't trying to appeal to everyone? #WebDesign #BrandStrategy #DesignBusiness #Architecture #InteriorDesign
