Dr. Bernard Brookes shared thisIn 2022, soldiers dug trenches in the most contaminated forest on Earth. They weren't told what was in the soil. The instruments that could have told them — the dosimeters — were destroyed. Dr. Bernard Brookes shared thisConsider Black Panther. Wakanda doesn't exist geographically, but its impact was real and measurable. Research confirms that the film functioned as a place of identity formation and belonging for a global diaspora, offering a coherent narrative of dignity and power where none had existed at that scale before [15][16]. What made it different from most superhero films was that T'Challa couldn't simply overpower Killmonger. He had to answer the question Killmonger was asking — whether inherited power is legitimate, whether belonging can be earned or only received. That's a harder story. And a more honest one.Samson, Hercules, and The Black Panther – What Superheroes Tell Us About The Human ConditionSamson, Hercules, and The Black Panther – What Superheroes Tell Us About The Human ConditionDr. Bernard Brookes

Dr. Bernard Brookes shared thisThis is the second piece in a series drawn from my book, The Committee in Your Mind. The first article made the macro argument — why every system we build eventually serves itself. This one begins smaller. In a kitchen. With a woman, a knife, an onion, and a forest burning somewhere she can't reach. The scene is from Chapter 1. It's about the committee we all have — and how efficiently it can manage our feelings about the world while leaving the world completely untouched.
-
Dr. Bernard Brookes shared thisYou are not as free as you feel right now. Not because someone is controlling you — but because the most efficient way to manage a conscious creature is to make it manage itself. Arrange the maze carefully enough and the mouse experiences its path to the cheese as choice. The disturbing thing isn't that this is happening. The disturbing thing is that it works equally well on the person running the maze. The Committee in Your Mind - Why Every System We Build Eventually Serves ItselfThe Committee in Your Mind - Why Every System We Build Eventually Serves ItselfDr. Bernard Brookes

Dr. Bernard Brookes reacted on this“You’ve had this moment. Something doesn’t feel right. Not enough to stop everything— just enough that you notice. And then you move on. Most of the time, nothing seems to happen. But those moments don’t disappear. They accumulate.” From my recent book, The Committee in Your Mind, I made a short film called Two Futures. Dr. Bernard Brookes liked thisDr. Bernard Brookes liked this📌 Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence welcoming their first baby isn’t just about a new life entering the world, it’s about two families, both rooted in laughter and legacy, coming together in the most personal way possible. It feels less like an announcement and more like the beginning of a story that’s been building for years. Growing up as the children of Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence means being surrounded by creativity, humor, and a legacy that shaped an entire era of entertainment. But behind all of that, there were also two individuals finding their own path, away from the spotlight that defined their fathers. This moment belongs to them, not the fame, not the history, just them. There’s something special about how naturally their worlds have blended. For decades, fans watched their fathers on screen, never imagining that their lives would connect like this. And now, with the arrival of their baby, it feels like those separate stories have found a shared future, one built on love rather than performance. You can almost picture the kind of environment this child will grow up in. A home filled with stories, laughter, and generations of experience, but also one that understands the importance of staying grounded. It’s not just about legacy, it’s about creating something new while carrying the warmth of what came before. And that’s what makes this moment so meaningful. It’s not just another headline about famous families. It’s a reminder that behind every legacy are real people, building real lives. And now, with this new beginning, Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence have started another chapter. ~repost from Golden Era Hollywood

Dr. Bernard Brookes liked thisDr. Bernard Brookes liked this📌 As of early 2026, it is confirmed that the Oscar winning duo of director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan are developing an epic film about Mansa Musa, the 14th-century Malian emperor known as one of the wealthiest people who ever lived. “Mansa Musa” is an extraordinary reimagining of this most powerful and least-told stories in Black history. Set against sweeping West African landscapes and the rise of the Mali Empire, the film follows Musa Keita’s transformation from a reluctant heir to the most influential ruler of the medieval world. After a tragic loss fractures his sense of duty, Musa must confront political betrayal, spiritual awakening, and the immense responsibility of leading a nation poised to dominate trade, culture, and scholarship. The film is in early development/pre-production, with no official release date or production schedule announced.

Today I attended the 2025 Economic Inclusion Summit hosted by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce at the Georgia International Convention Center. The panelists shared timely insights on how Georgia can step into its full economic potential through innovation, inclusion, and collaboration. From higher education leaders like Dr. Jann Joseph, Dr. John Fuchko III, and Dr. Georj Lewis discussing workforce innovation, to Aaron Brown of Microsoft highlighting the intersection of AI and opportunity, the message was clear, Georgia’s growth depends on preparing a skilled, future-ready workforce. The conversation led by Amber King, John Hancock, and Antrell Tyson, moderated by Johnathon King, further emphasized how aligning education, business, and community partnerships can bridge workforce gaps while expanding equitable access. Grateful for the Georgia Chamber’s Le Joyce Naylor and Tasha Allen for leading this important conversation and to all the speakers for driving forward-thinking dialogue on economic inclusion and prosperity for all. #EconomicInclusion #GeorgiaChamber #Leadership #WorkforceDevelopment #Inclusion #FutureofWork #EconomicGrowth #GCINCLUSION

Today, our University of South Carolina Career Center Coaching and Pre-Professional Advising team spent time exploring several important questions that shape how we support students. Among the many themes we explored, the responses to this reflection caught my eye: What do we want students to say after they meet with us? “I felt heard.” “They really cared.” “I learned something I wish I had known earlier.” “I left with confidence and a clearer path forward.” Achieving that experience takes intention. It requires continually strengthening how we support students with different goals and timelines…whether they’re navigating disabilities in the workplace, considering graduate school immediately after graduation, or clarifying next steps in an evolving world of work. It also means investing in our own development, reflecting on how curiosity, AI, and human-centered design can enhance the way we coach, advise, and connect with students. This work sits at the intersection of #StudentSuccess and #CareerReadiness. I’m grateful to work alongside colleagues who approach it with care, thoughtfulness, and a deep respect for the responsibility that comes with student-centered work. #CareerServices #StudentSupport #StaffDevelopment

Universities in high demand have historically over-indexed on low admit rates, high application totals, and the increasing number/ percentage of students they turn away. At Georgia Institute of Technology we are focused on being part of more people's educational journey. This is why our strategic plan seeks "to double the number of degrees granted and non-degree learners engaged." https://lnkd.in/eXJr3XWG Over the last five years we have: 1. Added over 4500 more undergraduates (+27%) 2. Increased online/ on campus graduate enrollment over 12,500 (+54%). 3. Founded a new College of Lifetime Learning to educate learners at all levels and ages. https://lnkd.in/ejp6Dm-y 4. Proliferated distance dual enrollment courses. https://lnkd.in/exkbAbUh 5. This Isn’t Charity. It’s One of the Smartest Investments in America By Terry David CEO | Head Start Director | President, North Carolina Head Start Association Social Work Educator When people hear “Head Start,” they picture crayons and story time. But I see something else. I see a four-year-old boy, Black, poor, the 17th of 18 children, sitting on a classroom rug, discovering what it felt like to be seen and supported in a space full of books and possibility. He didn’t know the word potential, but when a teacher said it with his name, he felt it. That boy was me. That classroom didn’t just teach me letters. It confirmed the promise my parents always saw in me and showed me that a public system could believe in it too. Today, I’m a CEO, an adjunct professor, a veteran, a proud Head Start alum, and President of the North Carolina Head Start Association. Each year, the federal government invests nearly 290 million dollars in Head Start and Early Head Start programs in North Carolina. That investment supports nearly 20,000 children and their families, many of whom face the kinds of barriers I once did. This isn’t just a moral decision. It’s an economic one. Research shows that every dollar invested in Head Start returns seven to ten dollars in public value. That comes through • Reduced special education and remediation • Higher graduation and employment rates • Greater tax revenue from lifetime earnings • Lower crime and justice system involvement • Less reliance on public assistance In North Carolina, that means a 2.5 billion dollar return on a 290 million dollar investment. It’s not charity. It’s smart policy. One often overlooked driver of this success is the presence of positive male figures. Head Start actively involves fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other male role models. We invite them into classrooms to read, into community circles to connect, and into a child’s life in ways that build trust, confidence, and identity. When men are engaged, kids thrive. Families stabilize. Communities grow stronger. If you’re serious about improving early childhood outcomes, support the engagement of male role models. They’re not a footnote. They are a force. No matter your politics, whether you value fiscal discipline, education, workforce development, or family stability, Head Start delivers. It doesn’t just help kids color inside the lines. It helps them write their own futures. This isn’t about handouts. It’s about building a stronger country, child by child, family by family. So here’s my question. What are you doing to invest in America’s children?

NCPFP graduates are more likely than other North Carolina principal preparation program graduates to obtain a school leadership position post-graduation due to several factors, including: NCPFP are more highly qualified candidates to begin with, indicated by higher evaluation scores and rates of National Board Certification, NCPFP graduates are more likely to be identified by school and district leaders for their leadership potential and recruited in the context of partnerships between districts and Grantees, NCPFP graduates are more intent on entering the principal pipeline, as evidenced by survey data. North Carolina Central University The Central Carolina RESA (Regional Education Service Alliance) and North Carolina Central University have teamed together to support future school administrators with NC Principal Fellow's Central Carolina Principal Preparation Program (CCP3)!

An author told me that within 6 months of publishing his book, he had won a new 50 million dollar client. The client contacted the author and said, “I read your book and now I want to invest my money with you.” The author said that this alone made the book project, “completely and totally worthwhile.” This demonstrates a fact that has been a constant throughout my career: being a published author is the ultimate business card. I told prospective authors this when I started to commission new books in 2009 and I say it now in 2025. New sales and new business comes when you publish a book. Let’s think about why this is the case. People intuitively understand and respect the huge amount of work that goes into writing a book. When they read your book, they are choosing to spend an unbroken period of time listening to (reading) what you have to say. In writing a book, you demonstrate your knowledge, skills and thoughtfulness. Some readers will be prospective clients looking to hire someone, or work with someone, who has that knowledge and those skills, or who thinks about the world in the way that you do. The global reach of this should not be underestimated. Authors tell me that they receive emails from readers all over the world, from countries they have neither visited nor previously done business in, sometimes with brief praise for the book, and often asking about new business opportunities. If you want a new tool to open up business at home and abroad, think about becoming a published author. If a book is not yet on your CV, think about whether this should be a goal for you and your business.
