I would like to thank so many friends and business associates that have reached out over this past week regarding the devastating destruction on Maui. For many years we have been so fortunate to consider Maui a second home, and the only personal impact we experienced last week was a deep sense of grief for those in the fire zones. Although, Maui is considered a luxurious paradise for those who can afford to visit, the fact is that is an incredibly expensive place for local residents to live and simply get by in life. Now 1,000's of people wake up to nothing and 10's of thousands have lost the unthinkable... Please consider making a donation to one of these support agencies. Don Hoffman liked thisDon Hoffman liked thisImagine that on the day you were born someone handed you 80 tickets. Each one worth a year of your life. You didn't earn them. You couldn't buy more. And once you used one it was gone forever. At 20 you probably wouldn't think much about it. Sixty tickets left. At 40 maybe you'd start paying attention. Twenty tickets left at 60. And at 80 according to our little ticket system you've spent them all. I'm 86. So apparently I'm already riding on bonus tickets. And that makes me think very differently about how I want to spend them. I don't want to waste a ticket being angry about something that doesn't matter. I don't want to spend one worrying about what somebody thinks of me. I don't want to throw one away on people who make my life smaller. I want to spend my remaining tickets on the people I love. On conversations instead of texts. On laughter. On ideas. On creating things. On calling an old friend. On telling people I care about them while they're still here to hear it. Maybe that's the mistake we make when we're younger. We live as though the ticket booth never closes. It does. So here's my question. How old are you? Subtract that from 80. Look at what's left. If that number makes you uncomfortable, perhaps that's a good thing. Because the important question isn't how many tickets you have left. It's what are you going to spend them on? I've already used my original 80. Every ticket I get now is a bonus. And I intend to make every damn one of them worth the ride.

Don Hoffman liked thisDon Hoffman liked thisIf I Could Do It Over At 86, I've had a lot of time to get things right. And plenty of time to get things wrong. I certainly have. Do I wish I had kept every promise I made? Yes. Do I wish I could take back some things I said in anger? Absolutely. Do I wish I had made certain phone calls, apologized sooner, listened more carefully, forgiven more quickly and occasionally just kept my mouth shut? Yes I do! When you’re younger, you think there will always be another opportunity. Another dinner. Another conversation. Another Christmas. Another chance to say, “I’m sorry.”But life eventually teaches you something rather uncomfortable: There isn’t always another chance. I've learned that being right isn't nearly as important as being kind. Winning an argument isn't worth losing someone you care about. And pride is a terribly expensive thing to hang onto. None of us gets through life without regrets. The question is what we do with them. If there’s someone you owe an apology to, apologize. If you made a promise, keep it. If you miss someone, call them. If you love someone, tell them. And if you said something in anger that you wish you could take back, don't waste time defending why you said it. Just say the three words that can sometimes repair an enormous amount of damage: “I was wrong.” Frankly speaking, I can't change yesterday. But now at 86, I know something today that I wish I had understood much earlier: Life is too short to leave important things unsaid-and too precious to leave broken things unfixed.

I spent the first half of my career in this business - agency work for Southeast Toyota, INFINITI at the national and international levels, and Nissan Commercial Vehicles. Then came 7 years at Cracker Barrel and a year of power pause that taught me a lot about how I want to live and lead. When DealerOn knocked on my door, the fit was hard to argue with. I'm proud to be leading a team of nearly 100 digital marketing pros who roll up their sleeves every day for our dealers. DealerOn has built incredible technology, to be sure. Mine is the team that knows the stores and puts the tech to work to solve real problems and create growth. Clicks don’t pay payroll. Customers do. If your dashboard is green but the client’s pipeline is gray, you’re not driving growth—you’re renting traffic. Most agencies charge for clicks because it’s easy to measure, easy to scale, and easy to defend. Optimize CPC, show volume, celebrate activity. Meanwhile, the business is unchanged. Charging for business forces a different mindset and process: - Start from unit economics: LTV, CAC, payback, margin. - Design the offer and message to the right demand, not the widest reach. - Build conversion, not just campaigns: landing flows, speed, proof, pricing clarity. - Align with sales: qualification, SLAs, call reviews, CRM hygiene. - Attribute like an owner: cohort revenue and pipeline stages, not vanity metrics. - Kill cheap traffic that doesn’t create profitable customers; double down on channels with real payback. You can’t deposit CTR. Cheap clicks are expensive when they buy you explanations instead of revenue. Owners and performance leaders: if you wouldn’t buy your own traffic with your money, why sell it to clients? Outcomes over outputs. Partner, don’t vend. Get results, not clicks.
