Dan Oates posted thisHello everyone, I am thrilled to announce that after 52 remarkable years in the sales industry with leading companies such as Xerox, Linotype-Hell, Barco Graphics, Scitex, and Management Recruiters International, I have sold my firm, Clearfield Talent, and will be retiring effective July 1st. Moving forward, I am excited to work with the new owner, Devin List, to transition the client base for the remainder of 2024. Reflecting on my career journey, I am immensely grateful to the many individuals who have played pivotal roles in my success. To all those who have supported and guided me along the way, I extend my heartfelt thanks. For the loyal customers who entrusted me to serve them, I am truly appreciative. It brings me great joy that many of my customers have evolved into lifelong friends. I vividly recall the advice given to me by a seasoned Xerox salesman back in 1972. He emphasized the importance of maintaining excitement in every sale. Today, I can honestly say that the thrill of securing placements remains just as exhilarating as it was with my first sale of a Xerox 660 in 1972. As I approach my 79th birthday in December, I believe it is time for me to redirect my focus towards new endeavors. Looking ahead, I place my trust in the guidance of the Lord as I embark on this new chapter. My intention is to give back to my community, with a special emphasis on supporting veterans. Dan Oates posted thisEmbraer: Everything You Need to Know About the Brazilian Aircraft Manufacturer With reported ambitions to rival Boeing and Airbus as the top manufacturer of commercial aircraft, Brazilian-based aerospace corporation, Embraer S.A., is already the third largest civil aircraft manufacturer in the world, having delivered over 8,000 airplanes. Among its offerings are regional jets with capacities of up to 146 seats, and the company prides itself in their narrow design. Embraer has made it to the list of the top 100 defense contractors in the world, with a reported revenue of US$5.3 billion in 2023. The company has almost 22,000 employees at its 27 offices and operations in ten countries, including eight in the United States. But just what exactly is this company, where did it come from, and what can we expect from it in the future? In an effort to bring aerospace technology home, Getúlio Vargas’ Estado Novo’s Brazilian government founded Embraer in 1969, with Ozires Silva, a government appointee, serving as the company’s first president. Headquarters were opened up in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil, where they still are today. While the initial intention for the company was to make military aircraft designed for the Brazilian Air Force (BAF), Embraer added commuter and regional export airliners to its resume in the 1980s with great success. In 1994, the company was privatized and started working on large regional airliners and executive aviation, while still being commissioned by the Brazilian government. It became a public limited company in 2000, and has military, commercial, executive, and agricultural aviation divisions, as well as programs in place for new technologies and businesses in the industry. In 1968, a twin-turboprop plane designed by Embraer for both civilian and military use, the EMB 110 Bandeirante, was introduced. The Bandeirante could carry up to 21 passengers, and was put to use in the military in 1973. The company made 503 of these planes until 1990. In the 1970s and 1980s, Embraer’s focus was mainly on military aircraft, like the AT-26 Xavante, and the EMB 312 Tucano, and up until 1975, the company sold only to the domestic market. In 1985, Embraer launched the 90-passenger twin-turboprop EMB 120 Brasilia military aircraft.

Dan Oates posted thisNew York Police Department to Deploy Drones in Response to Gunshots Building on the ShotSpotter The “drones as first responders” pilot program follows the department’s ShotSpotter, which alerts officers of shots fired via smartphones and police radios. The detection system will now transmit the gunfire’s location to the drone platforms, and a pilot will trigger a drone to independently travel to the area. An NYPD statement explained that police officers en route to the scene can view the drone’s live feed on a smartphone. Where Will NY Drones Operate? The NYPD did not specify where the drones would operate but mentioned plans to install drone platforms on precinct rooftops in Brooklyn, Central Park, and the Bronx. The locations were chosen based on recent crime trends. Increased Usage Gothamist reported that the NYPD’s fleet features 85 drones and saw a 420% increase in usage in 2023 compared to 2022. Applications include the inspection of bridges and buildings after a 4.8 magnitude earthquake, monitoring protests, and measuring crowd size. Activist Pushback However, civil liberty advocates have criticized the department’s drone use. Gothamist previously quoted Surveillance Technology Oversight Project founder Albert Fox Cahn, who described drones flying over a protest and gathering identities as “chilling.”

Dan Oates posted thisAnother OEM in the Class 8 EV Business Officials announced that Hexagon Purus, a Norwegian maker of zero-emission vehicle systems, plans to sell a line of electric heavy-duty trucks through a Toyota subsidiary in the U.S. The Hexagon-Hino Distribution Agreement Hexagon Purus, a developer of mobility solutions for both hydrogen fuel and battery-electric systems, has signed a distribution agreement with Hino Motors’ U.S. division. Under the pact, Hexagon will manufacture up to 10,000 heavy trucks by 2030, which will be distributed through qualifying Hino dealerships in the U.S. Deal Could Be Worth $2 Billion Hexagon officials said the vehicles would be based on the Toyota brand’s truck chassis, then upgraded with Hexagon zero-emission systems, including batteries, power and auxiliary modules, and software. The new agreement replaces a 2022 deal for battery packs between the two companies. It could be worth $2 billion over the course of its lifetime, officials estimated. *Production to Begin in 2024 Production of the new trucks is slated to begin late this year. Dan Oates posted thisNorthrop Grumman’s B-21 Raider Is Flying as Expected Northrop Grumman Corporation confirmed that the B-21 Raider—its stealth strategic bomber in the works for the U.S. Air Force (USAF)—is still performing excellently and as expected. On May 23, 2024, the aircraft completed another successful flight test at California’s Edwards Air Force Base. The pilots in the Combined Test Force leading the flight test campaign (a blend of USAF and Northrop Grumman employees) noted that the B-21 is flying just like the simulator, confirming the system’s impressive precision. The B-21 Raider for the USAF The B-21 Raider is a sixth-generation long-range stealth bomber being developed for the USAF by Northrop Grumman. The U.S. Department of Defense gave the go-ahead for the company to start its production in February 2024. The B-21 is being designed to replace the older B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit bomber fleets in an effort to strengthen the USAF’s strategic bombing capabilities. The USAF plans to add 100 of these bombers (both manned and autonomous) to its fleet. B-21 Raider Specs Incorporating high-tech stealth technology which makes it highly resistant to radar detection, the B-21 is designed to infiltrate advanced anti-aircraft defenses, like anti-access and area-denial systems, and carry out precision strikes anywhere in the world. This digital bomber is capable of carrying regular and nuclear weapons, and has an advanced cloud-based digital infrastructure. With its flexible and versatile design, both Northrop Grumman and the USAF aim for the B-21 Raider to be the fleet’s backbone. The B-21 Raider’s Design Although most of the intricate structural details remain classified (for obvious reasons), we do have some information on the B-21’s design. For instance, recent photographs revealed that it has L-shaped inlets that look like sideways teardrops with a right angle at around a third of their length (these were initially hidden by Northrop Grumman when it unveiled the aircraft at the end of 2022). It sports a rounded inboard section to disrupt the boundary layer. It also has two indentations on both sides of the aft fuselage above the engine nacelles. There are stenciled markings on the wings and fuselage along with the project’s division symbol on its right wing. Northrop Grumman’s B-21 Raider — Fun Facts In addition to its stealth and digital capabilities, cloud technology, and open architecture, the B-21 has also been designed with sustainment affordability and long-term operations in mind. It has taken a team of over 8,000 people, and over 400 suppliers, to design and put the aircraft together since the contract was awarded in 2015. The B-21 is the first bomber to be unveiled since the end of the Cold War, and was named after the Doolittle Raid of World War II. According to the USAF, the heroic actions of Lieutenant Colonel James “Jimmy” Doolittle and 80 volunteer airmen, along with 16 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, changed the course of the war.

Expected to Add More than 400 Jobs Toyota officials outlined plans for a major expansion of its Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas complex in a presentation prepared for leaders in Bexar County, according to the San Antonio Express-News. The proposed project, valued at more than $530 million, would add a new building to the plant’s campus on the city’s south side and could expand the current facility. It would be the largest capital project in the plant’s 18-year history. Officials expect it would create more than 400 jobs at the factory. Toyota Says It Has "Nothing to Announce” Further details about the expansion, including what type of new operations could be added, were not disclosed by the company, and Toyota officials only told the Express-News in a statement that it had “nothing to announce” at the current time. Local Officials Consider Tax Breaks, Development Limits Bexar County commissioners were reportedly slated to consider tax incentives worth nearly $15 million to support the project, including a skills development grant worth $250,000 and a tax abatement amounting to $14.7 million over 10 years. The discussions coincide with San Antonio officials considering officially adopting a long-standing, controversial policy of limiting development around the Toyota campus. A developer sued the city and the automaker last year over what is known as the “Starbright Agreement.” Toyota’s Plan Follows a Nearly $400 Million Investment The San Antonio factory produces the Tacoma full-size pickup and the hybrid version of the Sequoia sport-utility vehicle. It currently employs some 3,800 workers.

During his active duty time he completed training as an Army Ranger and as an Army Aviator. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and 25 awards of the Air Medal, among other awards.His accomplishments and service while in the active and reserve forces of the United States are worthy of great praise. It is his service to the community, state, nation and veterans across Indiana that deserves special recognition. Colonel Oates has devoted much time and energy to assist veterans returning from combat theaters who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). He worked with others to establish Point Man of Newburgh, a non-denominational organization with a mission of helping veterans in need of assistance, especially those suffering from PTSD and TBI. He leads small group discussions for veterans needing assistance to overcome these conditions. He has helped organize fund drives for The Freedom Isn’t Free (an organization designed to support, among others, Vietnam veterans) and Point Man, each of which provide funding to support veterans and veteran organizations.In 2014, Colonel Oates organized and raised funds to transport Vietnam veterans and their wives to Washington D.C. to visit the Vietnam War Memorial. Colonel Oates’ selfless service and continuing support of veterans of all services reflects great credit upon himself and the organizations with which he is associated.
