David Horowitz shared thisThis past Friday, my undergraduate students at the University of Michigan - Stephen M. Ross School of Business wrapped up our Finance 444: Applied Venture Capital class with our 2nd annual VC competition. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching this course is watching these students go from having limited exposure to venture capital to presenting startup investment recommendations before experienced VC and industry professionals in just seven weeks. Based on their stellar performance, I can tell you that the future is very bright! Congratulations to this year's winning teams who shared in the $10,000 prize pool: 🏆 1st Place: Eudora Chi, John Mark Holst, Alex Patterson, Noah Pendo, and Dana Thurnell (Latent Variables). Mentor: Joshua Gray 🥈 2nd Place: Henri Fleury, Ryan Goldenberg, Jacob Goodman, Zayd Humayun, and Shinichiro Iwami (Leisure Hydration). Mentors: Chris Curtis and Kalefe Wright A massive thank you to Alan Gelband and Alex Gelband for their generous financial support of the VC competition! I also want to thank our ten judges who traveled to Ann Arbor and our nine mentors who guided these teams: thank you for investing your time and expertise in the next generation of VC leaders. Judges: Jun Hong Heng, Lindsey Kilbride, David Strauss, Ross Bosn, David Schick, Rich Grant, Chris Albinson, Mark Sims, Gary S., and Gary Krisanda Mentors: Joshua Gray, Chris Curtis, Kalefe Wright, Wayee Chu, Oliver Henry, Casey Berman, Jason Harris, Dan Stolar, and Benjamin Sack Go Blue! 〽️ #MichiganRoss #VentureCapital #GoBlue #VCEducation

David Horowitz shared thisThankful to my friends at Friedenthal Financial, LLC for giving my son Matthew Horowitz a great intern experience this summer.David Horowitz shared thisI had a terrific experience this summer as an intern at Friedenthal Financial, LLC. I performed research on over 750 publicly traded stocks. I was also able to learn AI coding using Claude Code. I constructed a stock index measuring the performance of politicians' investments. This politician index outperformed the S&P 500 by over 25%. Additionally, I obtained four Bloomberg certifications (Market Concepts, Finance Fundamentals, Spreadsheet Analysis, and ESG.) Thank you to Mark Friedenthal and Ryan Wheeler, CFA, for this amazing opportunity.

David Horowitz liked thisDavid Horowitz liked thisSo proud of the momentum we're seeing across NBCUniversal - and the teams making it happen. Game 4 of the WNBA Finals averaged 1.9 million viewers across NBC and Peacock, making it the most-watched WNBA Finals Game 4 ever, up 32% from last year. Across Games 1 and 4, our coverage averaged 2 million viewers, up 20% year over year. An incredible finish to a season that gave fans so much to celebrate. That follows our 76ers-Knicks NBA Tip-Off matchup, which drew more than 7 million viewers – the most-watched NBA Tip-Off primetime game ever – and continued progress for Peacock, as we shared on our earnings call last week. These results reinforce what we believe in: great entertainment and live sports – from Sunday Night Football to The Traitors franchise – bring people together. The strength of NBC and Peacock allows us to build on those connections, giving audiences more reasons to spend time with us every day. Grateful to our teams across NBCU for their creativity, collaboration and commitment. Incredible progress and so much to look forward to. https://lnkd.in/eMsPDYeqNBC and Peacock Deliver Most-Watched WNBA Finals Game 4 EverNBC and Peacock Deliver Most-Watched WNBA Finals Game 4 Ever

David Horowitz liked thisDavid Horowitz liked thisI never set out to become an entrepreneur. In fact, I've always called myself an accidental entrepreneur. If you had asked me 20 years ago whether I'd start my own venture capital firm, I would have laughed. In June 2004, I landed what I thought would be my last job at IVP. I felt like I had made it. I expected to spend my entire career there. But life rarely follows the script we write for ourselves. In 2011, I joined Intel Capital, where I learned how corporations think about innovation and venture investing. Then, in 2015, I took an even bigger leap. I left with a former colleague to start our own venture fund. We completely failed. After 18 months of fundraising hell, we threw in the towel. It was humbling. Exhausting. Painful. I'd gone from an established Silicon Valley venture firm to struggling to convince anyone to back me. I'll never forget what my dad told me: "Son, very rarely do people succeed their first time." My parents knew little about Silicon Valley or VC. But my dad understood something far more important. Failure isn't necessarily the end of the road. Sometimes it's the beginning of a different one. In 2017, Paul Yeh and I founded Conductive Ventures. Nearly a decade later, we're still building. Not always easy. Certainly not conventional. But incredibly rewarding. Recently, my wife asked me: "How different would your life have been if you had stayed at IVP?" The answer? I would have been a very different person. I wouldn't have experienced corporate VC firsthand, endured a failed fundraise, or learned what it takes to build something from scratch without an established brand or institutional platform. And I wouldn't have developed the same appreciation for founders building with limited resources against seemingly insurmountable odds. Those experiences didn't just shape me. They shaped Conductive Ventures' investment thesis. Today, we're all-in on backing capital-efficient, Lean AI founders. Founders who challenge the idea that building a category-defining company requires hundreds of millions of dollars. Founders who believe constraints breed creativity. Founders who understand that more capital doesn't always create more value. We believe the next generation of great companies will be built very differently. Our goal? Find these unconventional entrepreneurs before the mega-funds arrive with their massive checks. Looking back, the career detours I once viewed as setbacks were actually preparing me for what I'm doing today. I never planned on becoming an entrepreneur. But I wouldn't trade this journey for anything. Sometimes the road you never intended to take turns out to be the one that defines you. And perhaps my biggest lesson? Don't confuse a failed attempt with a failed future.

What’s old is new. Funny to watch VCs flood back to out-of-favor business models—hardware-enabled software, marketplaces, consumer tech—which are now viewed as more defensible because AI can't easily replicate physical infrastructure, network effects, or brand.

Seed-stage fundraising requires differentiation. Grind Ventures found it at the intersection of three underserved markets Technology transfer from universities creates early-stage opportunities that most VCs miss. Defense and federal marketplace applications provide revenue visibility. Critical infrastructure sectors offer commercial scale. Focused Thesis - Dual-use technologies serving defense and 16 critical infrastructure sectors Technology Transfer - University research teams1-5 years old at $1-3M valuations Revenue Clarity - Federal marketplace provides structured procurement pathways Commercial Scale - Critical infrastructure sectors offer massive addressable markets Geographic Focus - US-based companies with clear domestic advantages Stage Discipline - Seed investments with defined entry points and milestones The market rewards problem-obsessed founders with healthy margins and cash flow visibility. Dual-use technology delivers both. Which of these thesis elements resonates most with your investment approach? #VC #GrindVentures #ThoughtLeadership

Private Capital Global (PCG) is co-hosting a roundtable in New York at the Harvard Club of New York City with Brex this Monday, and the room is exactly what you'd expect from a 25-person event with this level of curation. 125 operating partners applied — Only 25 will get in. Attendees include heads of AI and value creation from EQT Group, Kohlberg, and General Atlantic. Brex's CRO, Garrett Marker, is on the agenda alongside three operators who are doing this work within portfolios right now. The two panels go where most conference conversations don't: where AI is actually moving revenue numbers versus where it's still noise, and what real portfolio-level transformation looks like once the pilot phase is over — data foundations, governance, buy vs. build, and what "AI-ready" means when you're evaluating executive talent. This is the format PCG was built around. Small room. Credentialed operators. Conversations that go somewhere. We are holding a couple of spots for the right people. You're the right fit if you're an operating partner, head of value creation, or head of portfolio operations at a PE fund — someone who is actively accountable for AI and operational initiatives across a portfolio, not evaluating them from a distance. DM me directly for the opportunity to join this discussion.

🚨NEW EPISODE: Recorded live at FUTURE TITANS 2026 - Jeff Perry of Carta sat down with the iconic Seth Levine, co-founder of Foundry. Seth has been in venture for 25 years, built Foundry from scratch as an emerging manager himself, and has backed about 50 emerging manager funds through his fund of funds. He has genuinely seen every side of this table. They went deep on building Foundry, why VCs are in the influence business, not the decision business, and why the concentration problem in venture is not only bad for LPs, but also for the innovation ecosystem overall. And why Seth's new book, Capital Evolution, is so important for the future of America. 🎧 Links to listen... Apple: https://lnkd.in/ehQUQ2EM Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eU4FExpg
