Dan Prigg reposted thisDan Prigg reposted thisExcited to announce my drama/horror short script MINE TO KEEP has won a contest that will help me develop my narrative into an animated short as part of an animated anthology series! It was selected after being reviewed by industry professionals with experience working at or collaborating with studios like Pixar, DreamWorks, Illumination, Disney, and Netflix. It always makes me so so so happy when others see the potential in my work as much as I do. 🥰 I wrote this script three years ago and I've been nonstop advocating for it (and all my other screenplays) because I know I'm great writer and my story is fantastic. I'm manifesting my Oscar campaign. 😤 https://lnkd.in/gjJc-6wE

Dan Prigg reposted thisDan Prigg reposted thisChairman and CEO David Ellison has announced Ynon Kreiz as co-CEO of the anticipated combined Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, effective at closing. Ellison said: "Bringing together Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery to create a next-generation global media company is a transformational moment for our industry. Leading it takes a rare combination of strategic vision, operational depth and experience running a public company at the highest levels of media. Ynon brings all three. In Ynon, I’m adding a partner with strong leadership and the operating firepower this integration demands. It’s a division of labor built on our complementary strengths, with clear reporting lines and it lets me focus where I can contribute most: long-term strategy, the company’s overall creative direction, talent relationships, strategic partnerships, technology and capital allocation. We’re like-minded, we see this business the same way and there's no one I'd rather partner with. Together we'll build one integrated company that is creator-first, tech-forward and built to scale globally.” Read more: https://para.mt/4hyV021

Dan Prigg liked thisPHANTOM BLADE ZERO: QUICK THOUGHTS. A few quick thoughts on Phantom Blade Zero after a few hours and several bosses. The TLDR is that I really like the game. It’s in my top five for the year but probably wont dethrone Control Resonant, Crimson Desert, and Blood of Dawnwalker in my top three. 1. This is an immensely fun game. The combat and movement are tremendously satisfying. It’s pure videogame. The combat animations are probably the new gold standard. 2. My only complaint gameplay-wise is the same as Black Myth Wukong - level design. There aren’t as many invisible walls as BMW, but the overall design is pretty linear. And thus far, all of the “secrets” are marked on the map (in the form of “you can use this tool here”), which is great for quality of life but adversely impacts any sense of discovery. 3. I’m not sure I’ve ever had less of an idea about what’s going on in a story. I know the protagonist died and came back to life and is maybe getting revenge (?). I know there’s a 66 day deadline. Other than that, I’m lost on what has happened since. Much like Wo Long and Wuchang Fallen Feathers though, I don’t really care. It’s not a game one plays for the story (and frankly, I’d rather this than something like Saros where the story is a negative). 4. It’s not a hard game outside of the boss battles - which aren’t that difficult so far but DO require extremely quick reactions to the dodge/parry cues. Definitely not for everyone. 5. I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again. This is a gorgeous looking game. One of the best of the generation for sure. The animations are also superb. 6. As much as I like this game, it does make me realize how underrated Control: Resonant is - a game with comparably fun movement and combat systems, but much more interesting level design and exploration.

Dan Prigg liked thisDan Prigg liked thisSir Patrick Stewart's passing marks the end of a unique era in games. Sure, most will remember Captain Picard and Professor X, but you’d instantly recognize the voice in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, too. He was the Emperor, died within the first ten minutes, and gave the game its emotional weight. More broadly, when a Shakespearean actor lends their talent to a video game, it has historically elevated the art form as a whole. It’s why, I think, much of the games industry still validates itself by its ability to attract Hollywood’s attention and convince them to do adaptations. For someone like Stewart, it certainly wasn’t about the money. That was then. Today, that relationship is reversed. Actors have figured out that games can make them bigger and more popular than film or TV ever could. You voice one character, and suddenly thousands of people line up at Comic-Con to hear you speak. I’m looking at you, Norman Reedus. The side hustle, or favor to your oddball Japanese designer friend, suddenly becomes a career move. Another complication is that once the games industry started recruiting more Hollywood talent, it also had to contend with Hollywood’s labor practices and unions. Its reliance on cheap, unprotected labor was, in fairness, part of what produced some of gaming’s biggest successes. But as it grew, it also had to mature. Sir Patrick Stewart brought class to his characters and, perhaps more importantly, helped gaming evolve into a more grown-up entertainment industry. That’s quite the legacy.

Sir Patrick's distinguished career spanned more than six decades across theatre, film and television. He brought intelligence, humanity and unmistakable presence to every role. As Captain Jean-Luc Picard, he became one of Star Trek's defining figures, carrying forward the legacy of the original crew while charting a new course for "The Next Generation." Across "The Next Generation," its feature films and "Star Trek: Picard," he portrayed a captain guided by compassion, curiosity, diplomacy and a faith in a better future, qualities that made him beloved by generations of fans. He leads our mobile games business and its place in Atari’s cross-platform strategy across PC, console, mobile, and web. I’ve worked closely with Matt since Hipster Whale joined Atari in June, and I’ve been consistently impressed by both his creative vision and his strategic judgment about where mobile fits in a multi-platform portfolio. Few people have thought harder about how to put great games in front of hundreds of millions of players, and Matt is now applying that thinking to Atari’s entire catalog. Last week I was back in Melbourne with members of the Atari team. It was my second visit since the acquisition, and I left even more impressed than the first time: by the talent, the creativity, and the pipeline they have coming. Crossy Road Rush lands on Apple Arcade next Thursday. Nov 5th. That’s just the start. Five months after an acquisition, it’s rare to feel this good about how complementary two teams turned out to be. Congratulations, Matt. Excited to keep building with you, Clara Reeves and the whole Hipster Whale crew. Skydance's leadership team is assembled. Games got the short end, and every signal points to licensing. Monday's CEO leadership team is a list of pairs: 🎬 Film: Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein 🦸 DC Studios: James Gunn and Peter Safran 📺 TV: George Cheeks and JB Perrette 📱 Streaming: Casey Bloys and JB Perrette 🏢 On top: David Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz Every creative business got two bosses. Games got one, and his other job is running corporate strategy and development. WB Games and Paramount Games Studio merging under Tony Driscoll, President of Games and Experiences. Driscoll knows games as a platform. He ran Fortnite's creator ecosystem at Epic and built its IP partner program. He has never run a AAA studio. Now he inherits Rocksteady, NetherRealm, Avalanche and TT Games alongside the deal desk, six weeks before GTA 6 launches on 19 November. You don't hand AAA studios to a licensing executive if the plan is to out-build the competition. You do it if the plan is to license and trade the IP. The rest of the chart reads the same way. Perrette is the only name in two boxes, and he owns distribution, ad sales and content sales across TV and streaming. Dennis Cinelli has finance. The pairs run the talent relationships, and single names run the cash. Kreiz turned Mattel toys into film franchises. This week Bobby Kotick, who ran Activision from 1991 to 2023, joined the board, and Ellison praised his "disciplined capital allocation." All of it sits on $79B in net debt. If you're pitching Skydance a games deal, you're talking to a strategy team, not a creative chief. Bring the licensing math and the exit. Franchise love won't carry that meeting. 💬 Which WB studio gets licensed out, merged or sold first: Rocksteady, NetherRealm, Avalanche or TT Games?

As consolidation reshapes our industry, the winners will be those who think deeply on cultural fit and alignment. We didn’t want to change what made the Niantic games business special — we wanted to fuel it, accelerate it and bring that community-driven vision to even more players worldwide. Now, almost a year post-acquisition, I chatted with President, Games Ed Wu and Goldman Sachs Hemal Thaker about the wins, insights and surprises along the way. Onto the next milestone. Let’s go!!
