Why do character artists give more importance to the front view of a character? Most of the time the top, the side and even the back view is seen most of the time. Possible answer: Who hires doesn't know about game design/mechanics.

Studies let you try things and fail. They let you get to the finish line quicker. They're heavy on problem solving and lighter on "wrist work". There is a lot that a finished piece says about your ability to persevere and carry something more complex to finish over a longer time, absolutely. But studies and vignettes are a great way hone the skills and build the discipline to get there.

If you're a concept artist about to start working for a company, ask who the art director is and whether you can see their portfolio. If they can't show you anything, assume they're a fraud until proven otherwise. An artist without a portfolio simply doesn't exist, whether they're an "art director" or not.

After a couple of long years of hearing people mindlessly repeat "adapt or die", as a person with a deep interest in humanity/how humans function as well as a devoted effort to improve myself as a collaborator over the years, I want to tell you my professional opinion: adapt, AND die. In an increasingly crowded job market overrun with bots and flooded with generated content, be the individual opinion and expertise that stands out. Cut through the slop for your team with ruthless, hard-earned clarity and conciseness. Your team will retain productivity when everyone else is drowning in the illusion of it. Stand out now by having groups of people with real expertise and opinions making each other better. Stand out in the future by nurturing a new generation of human expertise others will not have.
