Bill Hoogterp shared thisThanks to Austin and dozens of you already who responded to the last post, now more than halfway to goal on mentors needed for Africa youth leaders. Anyone got time to do a 30 min zoom with a young person? Doing (4x/yr) it means the world for giving them the confidence to join the world economy. What a difference to make this world better than we found it.Bill Hoogterp shared thisI'm blessed. God has been good. My work with LifeHikes Foundation has given me the platform to work with African professionals early in their careers to support their development as humans and leaders through Mastercard Foundation Associates Program. The work we're facilitating is supporting a continent wide mission to upskill people and communities to thrive in a digital age. To advance the impact of our mission, we are requesting people with a giving spirit who feel the call to support our African Mentorship Program by mentoring learners in our initial skill development cohort. This is an opportunity to share experience, offer worldly perspective, and guide a young professional to be a well-rounded human and leader. We have over 50 mentors committed, and we need another 50 for our Program kickoff in July! The commitment is simple: - 30 minute Zoom call per Quarter (4 in the year) - Genuine desire to support - $95 donation that covers the learner 200+ hour Programming tuition for the year. This has been an incredible endeavor - thank you Bill Hoogterp Carol R. Nelson-Felzenberg Jason Frazell, PCC Eileen Benwitt Mercy Oguche Ukinebo Dare Chaveso "Chevy" Cook, Ph.D. Ranil DeSilva Steve Lucey Michael McCabe Mark Ordover Lisa Rubinich who have been instrumental in bringing our Program to life. If you're interested, please DM me and I'll share the information to get involved!

Bill Hoogterp shared this87 MORE BUSINESS MENTORS NEEDED Like me, did you grow up wanting to make a meaningful difference but not always knowing how? We’re launching a new program today that supports young people in Africa—hand up not a hand out. Building their own futures through practical job skills! For the first wave, we just need 130 mentors by June 1 to make it happen (we have 43 already!) No worries if not a fit but if you know anyone that wants to make a difference this way, (1) you do 4 zoom calls a year for 30 minutes--just ask them how they’re doing. That’s it. Let them practice their English (or French, etc.). Easy peasy lemon squeezy. And (2) you contribute $95/year to sponsor your mentee’s skill trainings. LifeHikes matches & your mentee will tell you what they’re learning. Tax deductible since LHF is a non-profit 501c3. If feeling the spirit of yes, ping me or email austin@lifehikesfoundation.org to help us reach our goal with deep, humble thanks!

Bill Hoogterp reposted thisDrew said it beautifully. A reminder for all of us today that the power of family, amazing friends and perspective are what bring true joy to our lives. Note I said joy…not happiness. It was an honor and privilege to be this man’s daughter-in-law.Bill Hoogterp reposted thisToday, my family and close friends gathered to celebrate the life of my father, Demetrios Panayiotou, who passed away last week at the age of 93 in New York City. Initially, I hesitated to share this on LinkedIn or online, but I realized that the four principles my father taught me have profoundly influenced both my professional and personal journeys. First, love what you do. My father was a chef who traveled from the small country of Cyprus to London and eventually to New York City. His passion for cooking and the restaurant industry was evident throughout the decades. He had an incredible amount of energy for his craft, often working seven days a week with boundless enthusiasm. Second, believe in yourself. I vividly remember many moments from my youth, especially one particular instance when he was teaching me to drive. Frustrated by my doubts while trying to park, he firmly told me, "You can do anything, just do it and stop worrying about failing." That moment instilled in me the belief and determination that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. Third, be "all in" on your team. My father was a passionate NY Rangers fan, never missing a game for almost 40 years, except when he was in the hospital or traveling to Cyprus. His unwavering dedication to his team, despite their shortcomings and poor trades, was truly inspiring. Loving and committing to "your team" through the ups and downs of marketing campaigns and financial quarters is crucial to success and making the most of the journey. His "team" was also the community. He embodied the belief that being an active member of a community enriches life. He was always open to a conversation with a stranger, embracing friendship being a good neighbor and the strength of a "warm hello". Fourth, never worry about things you can't control and don't over-rotate on things. My father was deep in his faith and always trusted God. It instilled a joy and richness to living that I admired. He was a "don't sweat the small stuff" person and just believed that the best things will happen. With these four powerful principles I learned from my dad, I say, "Dad, bravo on a life well-lived!" I love you, Drew. Sean Carroll Michael Kern Michael Ripich Jonathan Stark Richard Nuñez Andrés M.
