This is what investing in AI in design looks like. As with many other job families, the design industry focuses on what might the impact of AI be: will it lower the quality with slop? Will it replace humans? Etc But I don't see much focus on to understand and really capitalise on the potential AI brings to design. We are largely treating it as any other tool: a way to get incrementally better. At best it's a short course for the designers, at worst it's expecting designers to already know how to use it. But AI has the potential for making radical shifts and leaps. I'd love to hear, and learn, from anyone who is making significant strides to drive AI transformation in design.

The great thing about developers leveraging agentic coding tools, is that a lot of the same design best-practices for communicating with humans, are also really helpful context for LLMs. I hope this article is a helpful starting point for designers to set developers up for success, especially those using Figma's Dev Mode MCP server. https://lnkd.in/gNi92tmH

Designing the right tool stack is critical to the success of a modern research team. In the past few years, I've run research team transformations at three deeply different organizations with wildly disparate cultures, operating models, and goals - which means that each time, we've settled on three different toolkits. Given how quickly the UXR tools landscape is evolving, an always-on approach to scanning the market is critical. But knowing how to look for what's best suited to you is even more so. Can't wait to hear these folks share their wisdom and help me get better at it! You know if Rosenfeld is convening a panel on UXR tools, it'll be the best panel on UXR tools around.

Loved this article from IDEO on the 38 things they’d love to redesign in 2026. Even though we work predominately in service and experience design, it resonates with me because like product design, you start to see patterns and opportunity everywhere: Many of our most painful systems aren’t broken — they’re working exactly as designed. A few that stand out for me: Elder care I’m fortunate to still have both parents in my life but they are in their 90s. I’m on the front lines of caregiving and have seen what we call “elder care” in the U.S. is really like. For many, it’s a fragmented mix of medical billing, underfunded facilities, and family heroics. It’s expensive, isolating, and optimized for episodes — not longevity. The real design failure isn’t healthcare. It’s that we’ve never designed elder care as a whole-life, community-integrated service. There is so much creative opportunity in the United States to research what’s working in other parts of the world, apply what we can here at home and create a more holistic support net that meets health, economic and social needs. Until we do, fear of aging will remain a rational response. News The problem with news isn’t just misinformation — it’s cognitive overload by design. Speed, outrage, and engagement metrics have replaced sensemaking. Many people don’t disengage because they don’t care; they disengage because the system is exhausting. What’s missing isn’t better content. It’s a service model that prioritizes clarity, verification, and context over volume and velocity. Automated Call-Centers Instead of “book an appointment,” let’s start with “why are you coming” or “what outcome do you need?” Make intent the starting point. It could enable better routing, better appointment lengths and fewer unnecessary visits. This shouldn’t require AI magic or a platform overhaul, just better service design. What connects all of these isn’t imagination — it’s incentives. If we want better experiences in 2026, we don’t need more ideas. We need to redesign the economic, operational, and service structures that quietly shape behavior today. A lot of conversations I have with design teams start the same way: “We’re moving fast… but we keep circling back.” It’s rarely a skill issue. It’s a timing issue. Most misalignment doesn’t come from bad design. It comes from discovering truth too late—after engineering starts, after a sprint closes, or after launch. And the cost of that delay is enormous. A late fix can be 100× more expensive than catching the issue early. But the teams that validate upfront—concepts, prototypes, even simple assumptions—consistently move faster, not slower. I’ve seen: • 25% fewer iteration cycles • Clearer rationale behind decisions • Less friction between design, product, and engineering Early insight isn’t a tax on velocity. It’s the engine of velocity. When we test earlier, we spend less time reworking and more time progressing. And our teams feel it—not just in timelines, but in confidence and morale.
