Investing early in Learning Management Systems and qualification programs is key to successful workforce development in new reactor deployment. 🔑 Westinghouse and NEXA® offer comprehensive workforce strategies to align training maturity of staff with faciity readiness. Read more below ⤵️
What's the single biggest threat to SMR and MMR deployment timeline? It's not regulation or supply chains. It's workforce readiness. Qualifying a senior reactor operator takes 12-18 months minimum. For first-of-a-kind SMR and MMR technology, building the training program itself takes years. Yet most projects treat workforce development as an afterthought. The projects that come online on schedule will be those that built their teams as strategically as their reactors. Our RVP Daniel Geraghty breaks down why workforce strategy must start now – not after construction – and what leading organizations are doing to de-risk their timelines. Read his analysis here: https://lnkd.in/e3_jzxS9 What's been the biggest workforce planning obstacle you've encountered in advanced nuclear projects? More great news for our Polish AP1000® project! The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) has signed an important financing agreement with Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) to support preparatory and engineering work for Poland's first nuclear power plant. “This agreement is an important first step in providing financing to deliver the Lubiatowo-Kopalino AP1000® project,” said Elias Gedeon, Senior Vice President of APX Commercial Contracts Operations, Westinghouse. “This initial financing will allow the Westinghouse Bechtel Corporation Consortium to provide critical engineering expertise, which will support both American and Polish jobs for the construction and operation of the plant.”
Podpisaliśmy pierwszą umowę kredytową z Export-Import Bank of the United States. Obejmuje ona refinansowanie części kluczowych prac przygotowawczych i inżynieryjnych realizowanych z udziałem konsorcjum Westinghouse Electric Company-Bechtel Corporation i zwiększa elastyczność finansową projektu. To pierwsza w historii umowa tego typu zawarta pomiędzy amerykańską agencją kredytów eksportowych a polskim podmiotem. Jej zawarcie potwierdza międzynarodową wiarygodność polskiego projektu jądrowego oraz gotowość US EXIM do dalszego wspierania projektu w kolejnych etapach jego realizacji. ▶️https://lnkd.in/d5mRNM76

🎉 Celebrating 140 years of Westinghouse and the people who shape our story! #Westinghouse140 One standout leader behind our progress is Jim Brennan, who joined Westinghouse in 1984 and retired in 2018 as Senior Vice President, Quality, Environment, Health & Safety (QEHS). Jim helped lead major engineering efforts, including supporting the launch of the world’s first AP1000® modular reactor at Sanmen in China. “Seeing Sanmen start up in 2018 was special for everyone in the company,” Jim said. “I had worked on this from the early 1980s – and in 2007, we got the contract. To see a contract come in and for us to complete it and see the plant go online was really rewarding.” 📖 Full story: https://bit.ly/3NNor5k Have you worked with Jim or our engineering teams over the years? We have achieved key milestones in our partnership with Nordion, a Sotera Health company, and PSEG Nuclear to establish the first commercial-scale production of Cobalt-60 in U.S. Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) at PSEG’s Salem nuclear generating station in New Jersey. Cobalt‑60 is an isotope used to sterilize billions of single-use medical devices each year in the United States, deliver life-saving cancer treatments through stereotactic radiosurgery, and enhance food safety through irradiation. Once production begins at Salem, the Cobalt-60 isotopes will be supplied to Nordion. Learn more: https://bit.ly/49I5WrD
