… congratulations, thom …  cfda chairman thom browne won the american menswear designer of the year award, presented to him by mark ronson and public school designers dao-yi chow and maxwell osborne at the 2025 cfda awards monday evening in new york city... the award paid tribute to thom browne’s singular vision of tailoring, an approach that has been credited with influencing the shape of modern menswear. thom has previously won american menswear designer of the year in 2006, 2013 and 2016, and has previously been nominated for menswear designer of the year from 2014 through 2025 and womenswear designer of the year in 2024. thom currently serves as the chairman of the cfda, a position he has held since 2023... thom was surrounded by guests teyana taylor, the evening’s host, olivia dean, the evening’s musical performer, and sombr, all wearing thom browne. additional guests of the evening wearing thom browne included britt lower and renee rapp... … hello, earthlings … in a hotel built many moons ago, known by many names, reflections of the past give way to a new future. from 1706 to the year 3000, a close encounter awaits… the spring 2026 collection explores the edge between the ordinary and the outer limits. lines and seams shift ever so slightly, evolving classic ideas to something new, something unknown. traditional tailoring is heightened and deconstructed to create paranormal proportions. the effect is both of this world, and beyond… the earthlings watching as their home becomes inhabited by space invaders… we come in peace… we come in peace… we come in peace… sport coats are cut in an assertive new silhouette, departing from classic lines to reveal shoulders that are twisted forward to resemble raglans - a nod to classic varsity shapes and american sportswear. these strong shoulders are pressed forward, waists are curved in, and hems have a structured flare creating thom’s new look for tailored dressing. skirts are lowered to a drop-waist and belted, pleats unfolding, softly draped just above the knee. the cricket sweater, layered within, a foundational thom browne design, is shrunken and cropped. bright preppy palettes elevate chromatic contrasts. repp stripes are woven, embroidered, multiplied, thom’s classic techniques of the past twenty years stretched to their limits. tweeds and seersucker mingle with sterling silver grommets and rings. selvedge patchwork and sequined tulle shimmer like signals across the spectrum of light… unidentified objects make contact, touching down, drifting into the room. the unearthly visitors glide forth in deconstructed, then reconstructed, humanoid proportions. morphing and evolving, harmony forms in the parallels between the space invaders and extraterrestrials. some wear trousers with four legs, some with two. no two pieces are quite the same, nor quite so different… boots are color-blocked, graphic illusions. what is real, and what is surreal. a strappy stiletto over pastel socks is in fact a pastel closed-toe boot. platform heels and spectator boots parade the halls of the maison. the teviot bag introduced in seasonal fabrications and a new clam shell handle alongside the iconic bolton bag. a match made in outer space… the core of the collection, tailoring, remains a throughline infusing the overall scene with simplicity. a proposition of universal clarity - a uniform for every being; both alien and human. a dialogue emerges, unearthing a cosmic connection between classic codes and the otherworldly… discover the full collection on: bit.ly/3WCVrON #thombrowne #thombrowness26
