“With God, there’s never the last hope...” Today’s The Wall Street Journal article spotlights TCB’s newest faith-based partnership, creating affordable apartments in New York City. The Yes in God’s Backyard (YIGBY) movement allows local church congregations to maintain ownership of their sanctuaries, while creating affordable housing the community needs. At TCB, we are honored to be a part of this movement in the Bronx, NYC, providing 13 stories of senior apartments anchored by First Union Baptist Church on the ground floor. Our Bronx development, The Louella, is one of seven current and upcoming YIGBY ventures we’re advancing across New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Virginia and Washington, D.C. You’re never alone with TCB! With the support of our incredible partners, we have made 900 Morrisey a home for close to 100 older adults, contributing to the 31% drop in unsheltered homelessness in Boston. In the words of our Board Member and President & CEO of Economic Mobility Pathways - EMPath, Kim Janey, it is in our name, “The Community Builders,” to go beyond housing construction and create supportive and sustainable communities where our residents can thrive. It takes teamwork, heart, commitment, and, most importantly, listening to the wants and needs of the neighborhood. We are honored to provide resident services with our friends at Pine Street Inn to ensure these apartments are not just roofs, but safe and accessible homes for residents to build their lives and relationships with one another. It's almost time to break ground on our new Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center NMTC investment! Tomorrow morning, October 29, we will be breaking ground on the construction of this development, which will more than double the size of the existing building. As we wrap up October, we also want to honor National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by highlighting our partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for this expansion! This collaboration will ensure quality cancer screenings at this health center, bringing together both primary and specialty services. We have officially broken ground on the future Bexley Apartments! This development for Bexley, Ohio, will provide 43 mixed-income apartment units along with a new senior center for the city. With the support of our partners, TCB will ensure these homes serve residents at all stages of life, including connecting residents to transportation, increasing affordable family housing, and extending services for older adults. TCB is thrilled to have shaped this project in order to fulfill our belief that all neighborhoods, including those with increased access to resources, deserve affordable and safe homes where they can thrive. We are pleased to celebrate the grand opening of our food pantry in East Harlem! Serving our residents at our Metro North and Gaylord White developments, this pantry will assist in providing access to food for people of all incomes. The reality is, 50% of TCB communities face food insecurity, with this number reaching 90% in some areas. This is why we focus on increasing access to vital resources, along with housing, so our neighborhoods can best serve those who live there. Along with food pantries in our buildings, TCB also invests in community businesses such as grocery stores and food banks to expand their footprint.
