Polygon is back on the ground. Senior News Editor Michael McWhertor reflects on our return to in-person reporting at the events that define the gaming industry, including BlizzCon 2026 earlier this month. "Polygon has been reporting from more live events in 2026, including BlizzCon, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, and Summer Game Fest, in a return to on-the-ground coverage after years of being primarily remote. This year's BlizzCon was one of the most interesting in many years, in part thanks to big announcements, but also for the opportunity to seek out and report on stories from Blizzard's "media village." While many independent media outlets have shuttered and publishers bring in more in-house editorial, it's still exciting and fun to chase down smaller, more personal, and Polygon-centric stories. (More of those to come...) BlizzCon offered plenty of ad hoc opportunities, which helps keep covering major events exciting, and I'm looking forward to finding new story opportunities this year. The good news is that many of the publisher and developers we've worked with this year seem interested in telling the kind of stories that Polygon is known for. And as Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to dominate the conversation in the coming months, I'm hoping we find the space to report on everything, no matter the scope or size." This September, Polygon continued to grow its new weekly video podcast, Point It Out! Every week, host Simone de Rochefort, Editor-in-Chief Matt Patches, and an expert guest yank the biggest stories out of the discourse cycle and unpack them through rowdy, ridiculous PowerPoint presentations. Over the past month, Point It Out! has brought our audience news and fresh perspectives on the state of gaming in 2026, this year's Game of the Year contenders, World of Warcraft's comeback, the Resident Evil movie, and the future of video game movie adaptations. Point It Out! gives our audience a take on the gaming industry they won't find anywhere else. Watch Point It Out! on Polygon's YouTube channel. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eU9fFKBu

This September, Polygon launched our Fall Preview, giving our audience insights, previews, and reporting on the season's biggest upcoming releases across movies, television, anime, gaming, books, and comics. As part of the lineup, we brought exclusive content and in-depth conversations with the creators behind those releases, including an interview with Zach Cregger on Resident Evil and a conversation with Marvel's VisionQuest showrunner Terry Matalas. The Fall Preview also featured special appearances like Kyle Gordon on an episode of our original series Shelf Quest, and much more. At Polygon, we're committed to bringing our audience the best coverage of the stories that matter most to them. Check out our full Fall Preview coverage at Polygon.com: https://lnkd.in/e7QnqjxK
