Traditional antidepressants have largely failed the 100 million people worldwide living with treatment-resistant depression. For the past 70 years, innovation in this space has mostly stalled, leaving patients cycled through daily medications that simply do not change the course of their illness. Change might be coming sooner than expected. We spoke with Steve Levine, MD , Chief Patient Officer at Compass Pathways, about their newly released Phase 3 clinical trial results for their psilocybin formulation, COMP360. Here is what the latest data shows: Immediate and sustained relief: The study demonstrated a highly statistically significant reduction in depression symptom severity, with effects lasting up to six months after just one or two treatments. The commercial timeline: Backed by a new US executive priority voucher, COMPASS has begun rolling regulatory submissions with the FDA, aiming for a commercial launch in the US by the end of this year. Fitting the current infrastructure: Instead of trying to reinvent healthcare delivery, COMP360 is designed to fit directly into the existing interventional psychiatry clinics already built for treatments like Spravato and ketamine. I attended my first #ICPR – Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research by OPEN Foundation two weeks ago and I feel like I still have an afterglow. I’ve been to many conferences before in my life for various industries, but nothing quite compared to ICPR. Of course I’m highly biased as I am deeply fascinated by #psychedelics however, that’s really only one part of the story. What really struck me is the amount of high quality conversations I had. Hands down every single person I connected with, actually felt like a connection. Nothing like your usual transactional “conference chit-chat” There's something really rare about a room – conference – full of people genuinely serious about moving the industry forward together. Very special, hard to describe, almost tangible energy. I’m still integrating all the impressions and people that I got to cross paths with, and feel a lot of gratitude, excitement and momentum. Especially in regards to the collaborations that have emerged out of it. Huge shout out to the incredible organizing team, first and foremost Ana Cassia Rocha Martins Joost J.
