Before he was the most famous neighbor in Pittsburgh, Mister Rogers was a New Yorker. He began his television career at NBC, working on well-known shows like Your Hit Parade and The Kate Smith Hour. And 58 years ago today—on February 19, 1968—Mister Rogers' Neighborhood premiered nationally, introducing generations to a gentler, more caring way to see the world. Today, we celebrate that New York helped shape his journey and share these wise words from the man who taught us all how to care for others.

Special thanks to our long-time supporters at the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association, who—for 15 years and counting—have helped keep New Yorkers warm. This winter alone, they collected more than 3,600 coats at car dealerships across the state in support of the New York Cares Coat Drive. We’re in the final stretch—just a few thousand coats from the 50,000-coat finish line. Help us accelerate across it before the end of February. Donate today at newyorkcares.org/coats.

Save the Date! Join the New York Cares Rising Leaders Council, a group of vibrant, young, philanthropists, for an evening of celebration at City Vineyard on Thursday, May 14, 2026. This year, we’re celebrating the theme of Give Where You Live, a reflection of the energy, passion, and generosity that define our city. The Soiree will honor Rising Leaders Council member and co-chair Ally Walstad, who volunteered more than 100 hours with New York Cares in 2025 and continues to lead and inspire our growing community of volunteers. Take in the skyline views, wind down after work, network with fellow New Yorkers, and give back to the city that has given us so much. Get your tickets at our link in comments 🪩 Special thanks to our top Soiree sponsors: StreetEasy Will Breskman Marsh

Before he was one of the world's most famous Dungeons & Dragons gamemasters, he was a kid growing up in NYC. In a new interview with Variety, Brennan Lee Mulligan shared what it meant for him to partner with New York Cares at his first ever show at Madison Square Garden. Thanks to Brennan and the cast and crew at Dimension 20's Gauntlet at the Garden, we raised $100,000 and received over 1,500 coats for the New York Cares Coat Drive last year! Join the campaign to keep New Yorkers warm and help us reach 50,000 coat donations by the end of February at newyorkcares.org ⚔️🎲🐉 #popculture #dnd

After serving her country as First Lady, native New Yorker Eleanor Roosevelt returned home and continued her work in public service for the rest of her life, not just in the global sphere, but through housing advocacy and in support of NYC’s immigrant communities. Her story teaches us two extraordinary lessons: 1. No matter how big your influence is, acting locally makes a world of difference. 2. There’s no such thing as caring ”too much” when we give to others. #newyorkers

The New York Cares Coat Drive is proud to team up with the Nets, Liberty, and other iconic NYC sports organizations through the WeLoveNYC Sports Coalition. Last weekend, fans of comedian and The Daily Show correspondent Josh Johnson came together to donate 505 coats to the New York Cares Coat Drive! We hosted a drop off booth at Josh’s five sold out shows at the Beacon Theatre, where fans who donated received a special limited edition Josh Johnson x New York Cares enamel pin.
