    You know what I think? The more capable AI becomes, the more valuable human inputs become. That's my takeaway as the sun sets on another year at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. For years, technology created competitive advantage through scale. The companies with the biggest teams, the most data, and the most computing power won. AI is changing that equation. As the technology becomes more accessible, competitive advantage shifts to the things technology can't create on its own: Creativity Every AI interaction begins with a human idea. The prompt is more than an instruction—it's an expression of curiosity, judgment, and creativity. That's why storytelling is becoming more important, not less. The prompt has become the bridge between brand and performance. As creative workflows become increasingly AI-powered, the brands that tell the clearest, most compelling stories will also produce the strongest business outcomes. Connection Consumers don't experience brands in channels. A story they watch on Netflix shapes the prompts they write. Those prompts influence what they discover through AI, what they see across search, social and connected TV, and ultimately what they buy online and in store. Every interaction informs the next. If marketers continue optimizing each destination independently, they'll maximize isolated moments. If they connect those experiences, they'll create customer journeys that feel seamless. Trust AI can personalize experiences at incredible scale. But none of it matters without trust. Consumers embrace personalization when it's transparent, respectful, and genuinely valuable. Delivering that kind of experience isn't something any one company can do alone. It requires collaboration across brands, publishers, retailers, platforms, and AI ecosystems—all working from the same foundation of trust. The more I think about where marketing is headed, the more I believe AI isn't changing the fundamentals. It's raising the premium on them. The companies that win will be the ones that best combine AI with the things that have always been uniquely human: creativity, connection, and trust. LiveRamp

    What happens when your next customer isn't the one making the purchase decision? That was the undercurrent for my conversation with Dave Osborn (Microsoft), Jill Pavlovich (Albertsons Media Collective), and Parbinder Dhariwal, (CVS Media Exchange (CMX)) at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. As Dave said, we've moved from a search web ("help me find it") to an LLM web ("help me choose") and we're rapidly heading toward an agentic web ("do it for me"), where consumer agents will one day be buying from retail agents. Most agree that's where we're headed, so marketers need to be thinking less about optimizing for clicks and more about building the inputs AI systems will rely on to make decisions: trusted brands, high-quality data, clear value propositions, and measurable outcomes.
