As AI transforms how we learn and work, I’ve seen consistent needs across learners and educators: they want assurance that the skills they're teaching or learning are relevant, and that there’s a clear path forward to achieving a real outcome. Stories like Samariy’s bring that to life for me. I was deeply touched by his story and seeing how passionate he is about learning and creating opportunities for others. While at Albany State University, he actively helped classmates discover upskilling opportunities. He was incredibly dedicated, worked hard, and earned 15 #IBMSkillsBuild credentials along the way. Today, he has graduated and is now working as an instructor, helping other students build the skills they need for their own futures. His journey is a powerful reminder that when access meets determination, real transformation happens. Through IBM’s free education initiatives, more than 22 million people worldwide have already built skills grounded in real‑world needs. And we’re committed to skilling 30 million people by 2030. For anyone navigating AI and wondering where to begin, I invite you to take IBM SkillsBuild AI Level Up, an assessment that helps you understand where you stand with AI and identify curated learning paths you can act on right away 👉 https://ibm.biz/ailevelup

Today, we announced the launch of the MIT-IBM Computing Research Lab. Building on the success of the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab since 2018, we open a new chapter in our collaboration, expanding our mission to meet today’s technology moment. AI and quantum computing are each advancing at an astonishing pace, and we believe that their fates will become increasingly interwoven as time goes on. For the next decade, our goal is to harness the power of these two revolutions, unlocking new computational approaches to solve the world’s hardest problems. Achieving our goals will require leading edge innovation within and between the fields of AI and quantum computing. Our new lab reaffirms the strong partnership between MIT and IBM, bringing together some of the best minds that academic and industrial research have to offer. Together, we aim to rethink the mathematical foundations of science and engineering. I’m honored to continue co-directing this effort with Aude Oliva as we work to drive the next wave of breakthrough. I am excited to see what the next decade will bring. If you can’t oversee your systems, you can’t control them —and without control, digital #sovereignty remains out of reach. That gap is becoming increasingly visible. A new study by the IBM Institute for Business Value and DUBAI FUTURE FOUNDATION shows that nearly all global executives believe sovereignty must factor into business strategy, but far fewer can act on that. Less than a third know what #AI runs where in their organization, and even less maintain an up‑to‑date AI inventory. Without visibility and authority over your AI, sovereignty is an aspiration, not an operational capability. This blog explores why sovereignty‑by‑design is becoming essential as AI scales.
