You know a PARTNERSHIP is real when the crisis hits, and nobody panics. Weeks before I keynoted for California Closets annual summit in San Antonio, their CEO Charlie Chase did something unique: He sent one of their designers to my home to let me EXPERIENCE what their customers experience. The amazing Miami-based Andrea Boet! That shifted how I crafted my keynote and how I showed up for their audience. The examples on trust and the stories about why realness matters were HYPER-SPECIFIC because I lived them first-hand as a “client”. Fast forward to the day BEFORE the event: After wrapping my previous keynote, I was rushing to LaGuardia since the fallout from the snowstorm had heavily delayed my flight. I wasn’t going to make my Texas connection. That usually means frantic solo problem-solving, but my D'Amelio Network Tony D'Amelio team (led by Meg Joray) was already in my inbox. My COO Graciela Atencio had been changing my ticket. And Charlie and his right hand Wendy Bauman, CFE were troubleshooting on their end for the ‘what ifs”. We were working TOGETHER in real time, making sure the audience would never feel the chaos we were managing behind the scenes. I made my rehearsal (early!) and the event was a total success. Congratulations are in order for our Minneapolis team. Before the holidays, the team sponsored the Midwest Design Awards gala at the McNamara Alumni Center–honoring excellence in design, detail, and craftsmanship. Five years in, the celebration has become a true showcase of the Midwest’s design leadership—which includes accolades for one of our team members, Kelsey Blackburn. In conjunction with Mike Rataczak Studio, a California Closets Project won second place. Situated within the historic Minneapolis home of Alred and Eleanor Pillsbury, our designer transformed the dated bathroom into an elegant dressing room, honoring the home's original charm while also befitting the modern age. Kudos to the whole Minneapolis team.
