Caged IBC Totes

Steel caged, polyethylene IBC totes are versatile, high mobility containers designed for handling, storing, and transporting liquid materials. Caged IBC totes are engineered for low cost and low weight compared to other IBC types. Their internal plastic tank is structurally protected by a rigid, galvanized steel frame that features an integrated shipping pallet base for easy access and maneuverability.

Caged IBC tanks provide a cost effective handling solution for industries needing to transport bulk quantities of hazardous or non-hazardous cargo. They are DOT/UN 31HA1/Y designed, tested, and approved for Packing Group II and III materials compatible with the container’s HDPE construction. They are available in 135 gallon, 275 gallon, and 330 gallon volumes and rated for up to 1.9 specific gravity fluids. They are suitable for handling and delivery operations involving
compatible chemicals, corrosives, acids, and caustics.

Caged IBC Tote Options

Caged IBC containers are available in new, rebottled, reconditioned, and black IBC tote options.

New caged IBC totes are newly manufactured and have never seen service before. They are the highest priced option but carry the benefit of being an entirely new product suitable for all compatible applications.
Rebottled caged IBCs have newly manufactured replacement inner HDPE bottles. The outer protective cage has seen prior use but has been inspected and refurbished to industry quality standards. Rebottled caged IBCs are intermediately priced and can be used for the same applications as new caged totes.
Reconditioned IBC totes have previously used inner HDPE bottles and steel frames. Reconditioned IBCs undergo detailed cleaning and inspection to ensure they meet the requirements for further functional use. Note, reconditioned IBC totes are not suitable for potable water and consumables due to their prior use and should NOT be used for these applications. This refurbished IBC model is the lowest cost option.
Black IBC totes have an HDPE bottle with an inert black pigment added during manufacturing that reduces the container’s translucency to block sunlight and limit potential algal growth. These totes are ideal for uses involving water and outdoor storage when wanting to avoid sun exposure and algae.

Caged IBC Manufacturing

These composite IBCs are manufactured from FDA compliant, BPA free food grade virgin high density polyethylene (HDPE) that meets ANSI/NSF 61 standards for potable water and food grade applications. Ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors are blended in during manufacture to provide tank resistance against sunlight degradation, making them effective for both indoor and outdoor applications. The exterior frame is constructed from galvanized steel to resist rust and provide IBC stability, strength, and impact resilience.

Caged IBCs are manufactured from industrial strength materials. They are easy to use, sturdy, durable, and can handle the stresses of shipping and wide-scale uses. They are appropriate for industry, business transport, distributors, end users, and wholesaler applications.

Caged IBC Tote Applications

Caged IBC totes see regular use in water transport and distribution, food and beverage industry handling of syrups, oils, and ingredients, bulk chemicals, agricultural chemicals, and products including solvents, adhesives, and detergents. They are also used for municipal water treatment chemical storage and distribution, waste and environmental services, and commercial cleaning and janitorial supply operations.

Caged IBC Characteristics and Advantages

Caged IBC totes are material transport containers engineered to handle greater volumes of commodities in a more maneuverable, space saving shape. In comparison to drum containers, a single 275 gallon caged IBC is the equivalent of five 55 gallon drums. IBC totes are cube shaped, which makes them easy to organize, stack, load, and arrange. They are palletized, meaning they have an integrated skid designed to standard pallet sizes for ease of use, shipping, and familiar operation. The skids have a traditional footprint around 40″ wide and 45″ long.

With IBCs, chemicals and other commodities that can be potentially damaged by air, water, or airborne particulates can be protected from these environmental concerns. Such cargo can be safely held and transported in caged IBCs without experiencing harmful degradation or interactions. Products can be stored with limited risk and minimized wastage from potential leaks, spills, and overflows.

These intermediate bulk containers are lighter than other IBC models. The HDPE liner is translucent, which allows easy gauging of current liquid levels. The integrated pallet bottom is engineered with a four way forklift and pallet jack channel providing multidirectional access for simplified and convenient maneuverability. All IBCs are stackable, and empty caged IBCs can be stacked three high given general safety conditions of the worksite or storage environment.

All available caged IBCs totes come with standard specifications, featuring a 6″ threaded top fill port with vacuum vent relief bung and a coupler style 2″ bottom drain ball valve. Additional equipment available for caged IBCs include female camlock couplers and garden hose adapters to provide fast, simplified distribution of the IBC’s contents.
