This family room went from ultra shabby to super chic! Before the renovation the floors were a worn, dated parquet. We replaced the parquet flooring with a warm chocolate glazed birch hardwood. The fireplace surround was a dreary white painted brick which we refaced with a copper metallic porcelain tile. The preexisting built-ins were completely demolished as they were oversized and out of date. We designed more contemporary and functional custom built-ins for the space, adding some square footage to the room as well. The textures in the room-dark wood, copper toned tile, plush velvet and soft leather-all contribute to the warm and cozy feel of the space. Photographer: Paul S. Bartholomew

A serene riverside retreat in Aspen, this home blends natural materials, custom details, and modern lines to create a timeless, sensory-rich sanctuary rooted in calm, connection, and flow. In this cozy lounge, we added a plush, sheepskin armchair and a sculptural side table. The rich wood shelving is filled with books, art, and greenery, creating a stylish and inviting space for relaxation.

This knotty pine ceiling was lightened with a semi transparent stain. This lightened up the whole room but changed the colors in the whole house. It was an easy fix: we just needed to find a color that had atad of reddish in it to go with the ceiling. The previous wall colors were tan that had a green undertone. This space was previously closed off with doors on two sides, it was dark and uninviting to say the least. This family of avid readers needed both a place for their book collection and to move more freely through their home.

A full renovation of this North Shore home opened and reconfigured key living spaces, creating a refined, family-friendly interior defined by architectural elegance, warm materials, and functional design. The family room pairs soft neutrals with elegant textures for a cozy feel, while a slatted wood wall and built-ins add architectural interest and support relaxed, connected living.
