About Us

Feeding Texas is a statewide network of food banks leading a unified effort to end hunger in Texas. Our goal is to ensure access to adequate, nutritious food for all Texans, improve the health and financial stability of the communities we serve, and engage all stakeholders in advocating for hunger solutions.

Who We Are

Feeding Texas is the largest hunger-relief network in Texas. Together with 20 member food banks, we reach over 4 million Texans annually with food and resources.

Mission

We lead a unified effort for a hunger-free Texas.

Vision

A hunger-free Texas.

What We Do

  • We leverage statewide resources to mitigate and prevent hunger in Texas.

  • We provide thought leadership by developing new partnerships, defining standards for our shared work, and examining critical questions about emerging solutions to hunger.

  • We accelerate the trajectories of our food banks towards shared goals by offering best practices, technical assistance, and targeted resources to help them build their capacity.

  • We educate and persuade state and federal decision-makers to help them understand the causes of hunger and strengthen its public policy solutions.

Our work primarily fits into five main categories.

    1. Policy and Advocacy

Feeding Texas identifies and advances policy solutions that help Texas families create a path to healthy, hunger-free lives.

    2. Community Resources and Benefits

Our Community Resources Team is dedicated to helping Texans improve their overall economic security through benefits and assistance programs that can tackle the root causes of hunger, like poverty and inadequate food access.

    3. Community Health and Partnerships

We develop and monitor nutrition education and health programs tailored to local communities that need it most and partner with healthcare organizations across the state to promote Food Is Medicine (FIM) solutions to reduce food insecurity and increase access to nutritious foods.

    4. Crisis Response and Recovery

As a network of food banks, our role is to respond swiftly and effectively to natural and manmade disasters and support the long-term recovery of the communities disrupted by those events.

    5. Local Food Systems

We support strong local food systems through programs like the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program (LFPA) and the Rio Grande Colonias USDA Regional Food Business Center. By connecting communities directly with their food sources, we’re making fresh, nutritious food more accessible for Texans.
