Poster Series: “Feelings That Don’t Have Names Yet”
US$1,000
*3 artists will be selected to work on this poster series
OVERVIEW
This poster series will explore emotions that are difficult to define, explain, or fully articulate. Inspired by invented emotional vocabulary words like sonder and vellichor. Each selected artist for this project will develop an original emotion concept, give it a name and definition, and visually interpret it through an abstract or conceptual poster design.
The series is centered around emotional nuance, visual experimentation, and storytelling through design. While each poster should stand strongly on its own, the final collection should feel cohesive as a unified series — connected through tone, typography, composition, pacing, or visual language while still allowing room for individual creative expression.
The work should feel thoughtful, contemporary, emotionally intelligent, and visually immersive. The goal is to create designs that evoke a feeling first, and explain it second.
TARGET AUDIENCE
- Next generation creatives and emerging artists
- Creative professionals across disciplines
- Audiences interested in conceptual design and emotional storytelling
- People drawn to introspection, experimental visuals, and culture-driven creative work
THEME
“Feelings That Don’t Have Names Yet”: Each poster in the series should invent and explore a fictional emotional term — a feeling, tension, or emotional state that feels familiar but difficult to describe in existing language.
The emotion can explore themes such as:
- Digital-era loneliness
- Nostalgia for places never visited
- Creative burnout
- Hyper-awareness of time passing
- Emotional disconnect despite constant connection
- The tension between ambition and exhaustion
- The feeling of becoming a different version of yourself
The visual direction should lean conceptual, atmospheric, surreal, typographic, abstract, or emotionally evocative. Artists are encouraged to prioritize mood, symbolism, and emotional resonance over literal interpretation.
REQUIREMENTS
While artists are encouraged to bring their own perspective and visual style to the project, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
- Please use only Adobe tools throughout the creative process
- No profanity, explicit, or inappropriate content
- The final poster should feel intentional, visually compelling, and emotionally cohesive
- Posters should balance individuality while still feeling connected through the series
- Final artwork must be designed at 24” x 36” print dimensions and should remain legible when scaled down for a limited 11” x 17” print run
- Posters will be digitally printed in full color
Each poster should include:
- An abstract or conceptual visual interpretation of the emotion
- The Adobe Creative Apprenticeship lockup and an artist callout (name + Instagram handle) at the bottom of the poster.
Important notes:
- Artwork must be original and created by the submitting artist.
- Please confirm copy is approved with your Creative Director before final delivery.
HUMAN-MADE CREATIVITY
We love seeing original, human-made creativity shine. While generative AI can support your process, your unique artistic voice should be front and center. If you use any AI-assisted elements, please clearly indicate where and how they were used.
