How the Program Works

RCAH is a four-year, degree-granting college at MSU. All students in RCAH graduate with the same degree. However, within this degree, students can design their own "elective pathway," a group of courses that reflect the individual student's interests and career goals. These elective pathway courses are chosen in consultation with the student's adviser. In addition, students are encouraged to pursue dual majors and specializations in other departments throughout the university.

Students, faculty, and advisors work together to create a program that includes RCAH courses, general education courses, electives, languages, and civic engagement activities off-campus, at home, and abroad. This path of study includes classes both within RCAH and outside the college to satisfy university and college requirements.

One of the unique features of RCAH is the variety of opportunities to become fully involved in one's own learning. Interactions with visiting and residential artists and scholars, service in the greater Lansing community, a "study away" program in another community within the United States, and study abroad are just some of the experiences available in RCAH. In addition, RCAH students are encouraged and supported to create their own groups and activities to fully engage in the life of the college.
