Several ENC bridges to be replaced or preserved under $3.9 million contract
Multiple bridges in Pitt and Beaufort counties will be replaced or preserved under a contract the N. C. Department of Transportation awarded this month. American Contracting & Services Inc. was awarded the $3. 9 million contract. Crews can begin work in July and are expected to be completed next summer. The following bridges will be replaced:N. C. 99 over Pantego CreekN. C. 92 over Bath CreekDuring construction, the two bridges will be closed, and drivers will be detoured.

Update: NC DOT will reopen NC12 at 1 p.m. on Tuesday
North Carolina Highway 12 will reopen at 1 p. m. Tuesday afternoon. NC DOT officials are asking people to drive safely as areas of standing water and sand may still exist. Related: Flooding impacts felt, seen in North Topsail Beach. The North Carolina Department of Transportation shut down the highway after a Sunday storm with high winds and rains brought ocean and sound flooding to the Outer Banks. N. C.

Lenoir Co. road will close for a month
Several closures are scheduled on a Lenoir County road while N. C. Department of Transportation crews replace pipes. Different sections of Mark N. Smith Road will be closed between May 4 and June 4. The first closure will be near John Green Smith Road and begin at 8 a. m. Tuesday and last through 5 p. m. Wednesday. NCDOT will update DriveNC. gov with each closure. Dates and times of the construction will be weather dependent.

Lane closures on bridges in Carteret County
North Carolina Department of Transportation contractors will close traffic lanes on two Carteret County bridges. Single lane closures are anticipated every day during bridge construction. Beginning Monday, the outer two lanes of the Atlantic Beach Bridge, connecting Morehead City and Atlantic Beach over the Bogue Sound, will close. Lane closures on the Emerald Isle Bridge will begin Wednesday, September 16th.

Green County road project will close road for two months
A Greene County road is expected to close for two months while N. C. Department of Transportation contract crews make improvements to it. NW 2nd Street will close at the intersection with U. S. 13/N. C. 903 (Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway) at 8 a. m. June 15. Crews will work on improving grading and drainage in the area. The closure is expected to last through Aug. 15. There will be no access to NW 2nd Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Corbett Street.

Piece of history to be moved on Sunday
Some traffic delays may be possible in the Uptown District on Sunday morning as the historic Jones-Lee House is relocated. The Rodney Turner House Moving Service will take the house over to the new lot. Currently, the house is sitting on top of a huge truck waiting to make the move. The relocation of the house will happen between 7 a. m. and noon. City representatives believe it will only take an hour and a half, but want to err on the side of caution.

Another Craven County highway ramp closing for makeover
An exit ramp off of a Craven County highway will be closed for two days so the N. C. Department of Transportation can improve pavement. The exit ramp at Clarks Road from U. S. 70 East will be closed from 6:30 a. m. Thursday and will reopen at 7 p. m. Friday. These dates are weather permitting. During the closure, NCDOT will remove the top 2. 5 inches of existing asphalt and replace it with new asphalt. Motorists on Hwy. 70 East wanting to access Clarks Road will continue about a mile to N. C.

Improvements to Onslow Co. intersections topic of upcoming public meeting
The N. C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting in late July on a proposed project to improve two intersections in Onslow County. The project aims to address safety issues at the U. S. 17 / N. C. 172 (Sneads Ferry Road) and U. S. 17 / Old Folkstone Road intersections in Holly Ridge. The design of the project also provides a new route to connect Sneads Ferry Road and Old Folkstone Road. Maps of the proposal area can be found at the NCDOT Public Meetings website.

Construction to close Lenoir County road for five days
A Lenoir County road will close for several day as part of construction to connect N. C. 58 to N. C. 11 continues. Ferrell Road will be closed between Savannah School Road and Hamilton Road between 7 a. m. July 22 and 5 p. m. July 26. During the closure, N. C. Department of Transportation contract crews will set concrete bridge girders for the C. F. Harvey Parkway project. Northbound traffic will be detoured onto Tilghman Mill Road, Wallace Family Road and Cameron Langston Road.

Beaufort County Bridge to be replaced; local road closed beginning next week
Part of a Beaufort County road will be closed for the next several months while contract crews replace a bridge. The North Carolina Department of Transportation says Gray Road will be closed just south N. C. 33 while crews with S. T. Wooten replace a bridge between Maple Court and Benjamin Road in Chocowinity. The road will close July 22 and officials say the project is expected to take 240 days.

Craven County highway ramp closed this weekend
A Craven County highway ramp will be closed this weekend as the N. C. Department of Transportation continues work to upgrade the highway to interstate standards. The U. S. 70 Westbound exit ramp to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be closed from 6:30 a. m. July 13 through 7 p. m. July 14. These dates are weather permitting. During the closure, NCDOT will remove the top 2. 5 inches of existing asphalt and replace it with 2. 5 inches of new asphalt.

Portion of Greenville street to be converted to two-way traffic
A major traffic change is coming to a street in the Uptown district of Greenville. It's due in part to the construction relating to the Town Creek Culvert project. Work will begin this week to convert the portion of Cotanche Street between East Fifth Street and Reade Circle from one- to two-way traffic. This change is expected to go live on Friday. This change is being made to offset the coming closure of the intersection of Reade Circle and Evans Street, the city said in a press release.

NCDOT to upgrade Newport pedestrian crossings for at least 3 days
NEWPORT – Turn lanes at a Carteret County intersection will be closed a few days next week while the pedestrian crossings are upgraded. Between 7 p. m. July 8 and 6 a. m. July 9, the left turn lanes in both directions of U. S. 70 at the Roberts Road intersection will be closed. Following that work, between 7 p. m. July 9 and 6 a. m. July 10, the right turn lanes in both directions of U. S. 70 at the Roberts Road intersection will be closed. N. C.

Nightly lane closures expected to start Monday for Slocum Flyover Project
HAVELOCK – Starting Monday, the N. C. Department of Transportation plans to close lanes on U. S. 70 as work continues to complete the overpass across the highway into Slocum Gate, the main access to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. From July 8 through Sept. 20, east and westbound lanes will close overnight on U. S. 70 in Havelock. Lanes can be closed every night of the week, but crews are restricted to work between 8 p. m. and 4 a. m.

Pitt County highway ramp to be closed for improvements
A Pitt County highway ramp will be closed for several weeks as crews make improvements to part of the Southwest Bypass project. Beginning at 7 a. m. July 8, exit 73 B on U. S. 264 East will be closed. This exit will remain closed for about one month. During the closure, the N. C. Department of Transportation will replace the approach slabs for the bridge at the interchange of U. S. 264 East. Traffic heading east will continue on U. S. 264 to Memorial Drive (U. S. 13 N) and turn left.

Nighttime lane closures this week on Hwy. 70 in Carteret County
The N. C. Department of Transportation will close turn lanes on U. S. 70 at the intersection of Howard Boulevard and Nine Foot Road on Monday and Tuesday nights. Lane closure near Camp Lejeune Main Gate on Tuesday
Onslow County officials are letting drivers know that there may be a bit of a traffic slowdown near Camp Lejeune on Tuesday. They say there will be a single lane closure on Holcomb Boulevard, just past the entrance to the Main Gate, from 9:30 a. m. to 3:30 p. m. The closure is necessary to conduct required maintenance and road maintanence leaders are asking people to be patient and to use caution around the workers in that area.

Construction starts on NC Highway 101 in Beaufort Monday
Work begins Monday on NC Highway 101 in Beaufort. The North Carolina Department of Transportation says they don’t expect lanes closures in the initial stages of the project but workers will be operating equipment along the roadway near the intersections of Live Oak Street and West Beaufort Road. Night time lane closures are expected next month. NCDOT officials say those overnight closures are planned for July 9 and July 15 or 16 between 11:00 p. m. and 4:00 a. m.

Low water pressure advisory due to Gum Branch Road construction
Fluctuating water pressure could occur overnight Sunday, June 23, 2019, and possibly Monday, in the areas around the Gum Branch and Western Boulevard areas due to continued work at that intersection. The overnight work is to relocate a massive water line in order to widen the intersection. The work is being supervised and funded by the NC Department of Transportation. The work is to be performed starting at 10 p. m. Sunday and full water services will be restored by 6 a. m. Monday.

Construction to close Jones County road for 25 hours
POLLOCKSVILLE- Beginning early next week, the N. C. Department of Transportation will close a section of a Jones County road. Plans are to close Ten Mile Fork Road starting at 6 p. m. June 24 and reopen it at 7 p. m. June 25. A contractor will pour the concrete deck for a bridge over the Pollocksville road. Traffic will be detoured from Ten Mile Fork Road using Scott Road, Oak Grove Road and Killis Murphy Road/ Loop Road.

Most lanes to open on new U.S. 17 bypass in Jones, Onslow Counties
The N. C. Department of Transportation will open three of the four final lanes on the new U. S. 17 Bypass in Jones and Onslow counties this week. Early Thursday afternoon, NCDOT will open three lanes of the new U. S. 17 Bypass between Deppe Loop Road and N. C. 58 in Pollocksville. There will be one southbound lane and two northbound lanes open to traffic. Northbound traffic traveling from Jacksonville will be directed onto the new U. S. 17 northbound lanes.
