Villum Foundation supports research and education in technical and natural science, as well as environmental, social, and cultural purposes in Denmark and internationally. We were founded by civil engineer Villum Kann Rasmussen – the inventor of the VELUX window and founder of VKR Holding A/S.
About Villum Foundation
Villum Foundation is a charitable foundation established in 1971 by Villum Kann Rasmussen, the founder of VELUX A/S and VKR Holding A/S. The foundation's distribution funds originate from the profits generated by co-ownership of the VKR Group, as well as revenues from the foundation's investment activities. In 2025, Villum Foundation allocated approximately DKK 1,820 million in grants.
Building upon the company group's results, the foundation works to contribute to embody the founder's thoughts as they are articulated in the foundation charter.
It all began with a great idea.
Villum Kann Rasmussen was a visionary man. He was a civil engineer and the mind behind the VELUX roof window.
