1. Who is LaserPecker LP5 designed for?
LP5 is a professional desktop laser engraver designed for makers and studios who need to work with both metal and non-metal materials, as well as advanced users and small businesses upgrading from infrared laser to fiber laser.
2. Is this machine suitable for commercial use?
Yes. With high precision and long-term stability, LP5 is well suited for commercial applications such as customized gifts, metal signage, and jewelry engraving. For educational or school use, the
Safety Enclosure is highly recommended to meet additional safety and compliance requirements.
3. What makes LP5 different from LP4, and why should I upgrade to LP5?
Compared to LP4 (10W diode + 2W infrared, up to 4,000 mm/s), LP5 features a significantly more powerful dual-laser system (20W diode + 20W fiber) and a much higher maximum engraving speed of 10,000 mm/s. This delivers a substantial upgrade in metal processing performance and makes LP5 better suited for deep engraving, relief work, cutting, and high-efficiency commercial applications.
4. What does the “dual-laser” system mean, and what materials can LP5 engrave?
LP5 integrates a 20W 1064nm fiber laser and a 20W 450nm blue diode laser. The fiber laser is mainly used for deep metal engraving and high-contrast marking, while the diode laser is ideal for non-metal materials such as wood, leather, and acrylic, allowing one machine to cover a wide range of applications.
5. How does the dual-laser system switch between lasers?
LP5 combines two laser sources into one compact design, eliminating the need to physically change laser units. Simply select the appropriate laser source (450nm diode or 1064nm fiber) in the
LaserPecker App or PC software, and the system switches automatically for seamless metal and non-metal processing.
6. What are the engraving speed and precision of LP5?
LP5 offers a maximum galvo speed of up to 10,000mm/s, significantly faster than traditional gantry systems, with engraving precision as fine as 0.0027mm for highly detailed results.
7. Can LP5 really reach 10,000mm/s in actual engraving?
10,000mm/s represents the maximum speed achievable during line engraving. In dithering mode, engraving is achieved through high-frequency dot firing rather than continuous laser output. Due to physical limitations of this process, extremely high speeds are not possible on any laser system. LP5’s software algorithms automatically optimize paths to balance speed and engraving quality.
8. Is the LP5 software difficult to use? Which platforms are supported?
No. LP5 uses
LaserPecker Design Space, which supports intuitive operation on smartphones, tablets, and computers. It also fully supports the industry-standard LightBurn software, making it suitable for both beginners and professional users.
9. Can LP5 really cut metal? What is its cutting capability?
Yes. Powered by a 20W fiber laser, LP5 can cut 0.4 mm iron (2 passes), 0.2 mm aluminum (1 pass), 0.5 mm stainless steel (4 passes), and 0.5 mm brass (2 passes) under test conditions. For non-metal materials, the 20W diode laser can cut up to 15 mm thick black acrylic and around 20 mm thick basswood.
10. How does color engraving work on metal?
When engraving stainless steel and similar metals, the fiber laser rapidly heats the surface, causing oxidation and forming an oxide layer. Variations in the layer thickness create light interference, producing different colors. This effect can be achieved by adjusting laser power, depth, and frequency.
11. I’ve seen camera-based positioning in the software. Does LP5 include a camera?
The LP5 main unit does not include a built-in camera. The camera module is integrated into the
Safety Enclosure. Using the enclosure not only upgrades laser safety to Class 1, but also enables precise “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” positioning through the built-in camera.
12. How do I engrave cylindrical objects such as stainless steel tumblers or spheres?
Cylindrical or spherical objects require the
Rotary Extension. It rotates the workpiece in sync with the laser, ensuring the beam stays at the optimal focus point for seamless 360° engraving.
13. Can the default working area be expanded?
Yes. The default working area is 120 × 160 mm (oval) or 100 × 100 mm (square). By adding the
Slide Extension, the working area can be expanded to 160 × 300 mm, which is ideal for long signage or batch production.
14. How can smoke and odors be handled during indoor use?
For high-power cutting tasks, such as cutting metal or thick wood, it is recommended to use a dedicated
Air Purifier. It effectively filters smoke and odors generated during processing, helping maintain clean indoor air.
15. What connection options does LP5 support?
LP5 supports both USB and Wi-Fi connections, providing stable data transmission whether you are using professional software on a PC or operating through the mobile app.
16. Which file formats are supported by the official software?
LaserPecker software supports common file formats including SVG, DXF, PNG, and JPG, which can be imported directly.
17. Is LP5 suitable for handheld use?
Although it can be held in hand, the laser unit weighs approximately 3.36 kg, making handheld engraving impractical. For stable results and user safety, it is recommended to use the official stand; with the protective cover installed, the unit can also be placed directly on large objects.
18. Is LP5 limited to downward engraving only?
No. When used with the electric stand, LP5 supports flexible engraving angles with tilt and rotation configurations, allowing engraving on various surfaces, including slanted and vertical planes.
19. How does focusing work on LP5? Why is it important, and what is the focal distance?
Proper focusing ensures that laser energy is accurately concentrated on the material surface for optimal engraving quality and precision. LP5 is focused by adjusting the height between the laser unit and the workpiece. Official examples include intuitive methods such as referencing the enclosure edge or overlapping red alignment points. The standard focal distance is approximately 150 mm.
20. Does LP5 come with warranty and after-sales support?
Yes. LaserPecker provides official warranty coverage, technical support, and usage guidance, with optional extended warranty services available for long-term or commercial users. View
