Tony Pearce reposted thisTony Pearce reposted thisThink your game idea is unique, and has no competition? That’s a comfortable thought. It deserves a slightly uncomfortable second look. Your idea might be unusual. But your future players already have games they love. Understanding those games can help you see what players expect, what frustrates them and where your idea could offer something different. The useful question is: why would those players choose your game next? Explore comparable games and find where your idea fits with Gameloom.ai

Tony Pearce reposted thisTony Pearce reposted thisEpic is making a big push to speed up game development with AI. Bloomberg reported on 12 October that its Disney shooter is moving to an AI-first development workflow, with developers overseeing the work. The project has also been delayed as the team changes its approach. Tim Sweeney has described the goal as accelerating development and getting ideas into playtesting sooner. For a team trying to work out whether something is fun, that's an appealing ambition. It also leaves plenty of work for developers: reviewing the output, testing it and deciding what to keep. For smaller studios, research is one manageable place to try AI before committing to a build. Finding games worth learning from can give your team something concrete to discuss about your own idea. SteamDB lists more than 21,000 games released on Steam in 2025. That's a lot to look through. AI can help surface comparable candidates, but check the results yourself before you let them shape a decision. We've put together a guide to choosing comparable games you can defend, with real Steam examples and a reusable AI prompt (Guide link in first comment👇🏻)

Tony Pearce reposted thisTony Pearce reposted this30 years in gaming. Tony Pearce has seen it all; the console wars, the mobile revolution, and every market shift in between. Through it all, one lesson stayed the same: follow the market, stay at the front, and never stop adapting. In the full interview, Tony shares how he got into gaming without being a developer, built and sold a games division, and navigated the shift from console to mobile. He breaks down how app stores and free-to-play changed the rules, why players pay for progress and personalisation, and what developers need to do to stay relevant. Tony Pearce shared thisFree to play games. So why do players pay? An exclusive skin. A little extra progress. ‘go on its just a fiver’. Small purchases add up and they’ve changed the business of making games. Here’s my story from the music industry into console and mobile gaming and the market shifts I’ve seen along the way. For game developers, there’s a useful lesson: understand what your players value, why they choose to spend, and how your business model needs to adapt as the market changes. It actually challenges me, points out what could go wrong, and backs it up with data. Tony Pearce liked thisTony Pearce liked thisBack in the day, I used to sing for my supper. While I spent the evenings of my 20s chasing rock’n’roll stardom in the pubs and clubs of the capital, I earned my actual lunch (and dinner) money singing jazz standards in restaurants south of the river, alongside our band’s keyboard player, Phil. Well, the music industry took a light nibble and spat us out, needless to say. I moved into PR & Marketing, but never quite lost my love of singing. As anyone upon whom I've inflicted a karaoke session over the years will confirm… So this is gonna be fun. I’m performing at PR Has Talent! On Tuesday 17th November, I'll be swapping my usual work routine for the stage at London's iconic Soho Theatre I'll be joining 15 other acts from across the PR and communications industry for an evening of comedy, music, spoken word and, I suspect, a few surprises. Better still, it's all for a brilliant cause, with all net proceeds supporting Soho Theatre's New Writing Programme. Thanks to Graham Goodkind and Farzana Baduel for pulling it all together (and to David Hamilton for the tip off!) I'd love to see some friendly faces in the audience. Moral support, enthusiastic applause and a touch of light heckling (within reason) all welcome! Tickets (£30) are selling fast. Grab yours via the link in the first comment!

If you're a female founder who hasn't pitched before, come along on 25th November and see it in action, you'd be really welcome. I'd love to see women in the room who are still finding their feet, as well as those ready to pitch. That goes for male allies too of course ! We are all in this together and helping and supporting others is what Networkd is all about. There will be plenty of time to chat afterwards over drinks and nibbles. You just can't beat meeting someone who 'gets' what you are going through or knows someone who can help you. Watch founders present their businesses, hear the questions the panel asks and get a feel for what pitching involves, without having to take the stage yourself. Our fabulous panel are: Eda Taskin Pauline Li Mat Westergreen-Thorne Cristina Lasagni Jackie Naghten We're at the lovely offices of Tide HQ in London, with doors opening at 6pm and pitches from 6.30pm. 🎥 GEEIQ Minute: What changed in virtual worlds In this week’s GEEIQ Minute, our CEO & Co-founder Charles Hambro shares what changed in virtual worlds this year. We didn’t just analyse platform data for this report. We collaborated with 50+ leading creators and developer studios, including a first of its kind survey at this scale in the industry. The goal was simple: understand what’s actually happening inside the ecosystem, not just what brands think is happening. One shift stands out. Brands are moving away from building “own worlds” as the default. Integration-led strategies are becoming the scalable model. What comes next? Studios evolving into true owners of experiences, creating infrastructure that allows more brands to plug into more worlds at a higher level. The British Business Bank will invest £25 million into what it calls the UK’s most promising and diverse angel syndicates - including those that fund games companies. The platform is managed by the bank’s partner Haatch, an early stage VC firm. The pledge follows an initial investment of £7m into five syndicates last year, bringing the total to £32m to date. The partnership allows the bank to invest alongside recently established angel syndicates. One group backed by the scheme includes The Games Angels, a collective of games industry professionals. https://lnkd.in/etkjguFm

The browser could be the next major platform for high-end gaming. Entity has raised $5.8 million (€5 million) in seed funding to build what it calls the “new web,” with a platform designed to bring console-quality games directly to modern browsers. The Dublin-based startup aims to remove the friction of downloads and installs, offering what it describes as a true click-and-play experience across modern browsers. Entity plans to launch its gaming platform in early 2027. “The way games are made, discovered, and played in the ‘new web’ era is fundamentally changing and these games will need a new home,” said Rich Barnwell, CEO and founder of Entity. “For too long the industry has been shackled by friction-heavy downloads and arbitrary constraints.” Read more from Dean Takahashi: https://lnkd.in/g9_cv-a8

Games are not “just entertainment.” They are one of the toughest environments in which to build technology. Games operate under extreme constraints: real-time performance, massive concurrency, emotionally invested users, and near-zero tolerance for latency or poor UX. If a technology works in games, it usually works everywhere else. We’ve seen this pattern again and again: 🎮Real-time game engines now power digital twins for cities, factories, and infrastructure. 🤖AI agents are trained in rich, game-like environments before moving into robotics and real-world systems. ☁️Multiplayer gaming infrastructure laid the foundations for today’s low-latency, real-time cloud backends. Games don’t just adopt technology. They pressure-test it. At Kameha Ventures, we back founders who start in games because games force technology to mature faster, under real pressure, with real users. What starts in gaming doesn’t stay there. 👇Concrete examples in the first comment. ❓What other technologies do you think escaped gaming first? #GameTech #RealTimeSystems #AI

I've been in the games industry for 20+ years and most games fail before they launch. The same mistake appeared in almost all of them. Teams had done everything right. Talented people, real budget, strong conviction. But they had decided what to build before knowing if the market wanted it. Not because they were reckless. Because there was no structured way to check. The games that did not make it were not bad. They were uninformed. We have now indexed 350,000 games and structured 10,000 postmortems. The pattern is consistent: the decision that kills a game is almost always made at pre-production, not at launch. Introducing gameloom.ai Where Game Decisions Begin. AI speeds up creation. Web3 locks in value and ownership. At our recent webinar with 4+Ventures, Zara Zamani shared why the intersection of AI and Web3 in gaming represents the most exciting opportunity for studios, indie developers, and investors alike. AI accelerates creation, allowing developers to build faster and create personalized experiences. Web3 provides the creative output structure, value, and ownership. When AI enhances creativity velocity and Web3 locks in the value and ownership, that's where the magic happens. This is the future of game development and why top VCs are paying attention. 🎮 Watch the full webinar: https://lnkd.in/gUr4zN6U

We hosted the first AI Games Summit at NFX alongside SVB and Latitude. 128 founders and operators. One room. Right before GDC. No panels. No fluff. Just builders sharing what’s actually happening at the frontier of AI and games. For years, AI in games felt theoretical. Something just out of reach. Now it’s real. Teams are rethinking gameplay, production, and entire categories from the ground up. What used to take full studios can now be done by small, AI-native teams. This wasn’t a conference. It was a working session for the people shaping what comes next. This was the first one. It won’t be the last. Watch the recap ↓
