Simon Wright shared thisAlzheimer’s touches families everywhere – including many of ours – and this latest research is another testimony to the power of artificial intelligence used for tremendous good . Scientists have just identified karyoptosis, a newly characterised way that brain cells die in Alzheimer’s, using advanced single‑cell, AI‑powered analysis on thousands of neurons. That blend of human insight and machine pattern‑spotting is exactly where AI is changing the world for the better – turning invisible complexity into clear targets for future treatment As CEO of Intuety, I see AI’s impact every day in risk, safety and design, but breakthroughs like this are a reminder that the same technologies can help protect not just our workplaces, but our loved ones. This is another pause for me on this particular cause, because its impact around the world, and on so many people, is impossible to ignore.

Simon Wright shared thisThis week, an explosion at Qatar's Ras Laffan gas facility took the lives of at least 13 people and injured 66 more. The workers who died were from India and Pakistan — people who travelled far from home to do skilled, demanding work in one of the most complex industrial environments on earth. Before anything else: our thoughts are with them, their families, and the colleagues who will carry this loss. The cause is still under investigation, and it isn't our place to speculate. But it does bring forward a conversation our industry cannot keep postponing. In high-hazard sectors — energy, oil & gas, water, construction — the hardest truth in safety is rarely that nobody knew. More often, someone, somewhere, already understood the risk. It had been seen on another site, written into a method statement, raised in a near-miss, or learned the hard way by someone who has since moved on. That's the quiet crisis behind so many serious incidents: not an absence of knowledge, but the loss of it. Mitigation, at its core, is a knowledge problem. The difference between a risk that's prevented and one that's realised often comes down to one question: Did the right person have the right knowledge, in the right place, at the right moment? This is the work we've dedicated Intuety to — capturing hard-won knowledge so it's never lost, connecting it across teams and sites, and putting it back into the hands of the people doing the work. "So that it doesn't happen again" is one of the most repeated phrases in our industry. It's also one of the hardest promises to keep — because keeping it depends on remembering, sharing, and acting on what we've already learned. We owe that to everyone who has been hurt or killed doing essential work. — Simon Wright, CEO, Intuety #ProcessSafety #KnowledgeRetention #RiskIntelligence #IndustrialSafety #OilAndGas

Simon Wright shared thisOver the weekend I was looking at how AI “financial analyst” agents are already changing what white‑collar work looks like. If an AI can ingest live market data, model scenarios, flag anomalies and draft recommendations in minutes, it doesn’t just remove grunt work – it starts to reshape whole operating models. Now bring that lens into construction, engineering and utilities. We’re already seeing AI move beyond “safety only” use cases into live operational decision support: • Dynamic risk assessment at the point of work • Real‑time productivity and utilisation insights • Predictive maintenance and failure prevention • Automated documentation and compliance trails My view: over the next few years, this will realistically impact around 35% of staffing needs across certain operational and safety‑adjacent roles. Not because “people disappear”, but because: • One competent person + good AI can safely cover more work • Roles blur between safety, operations and data • The value shifts from data collection to decision‑making and orchestration Given how stretched the sector already is – ageing workforce, skills gaps, chronic labour shortages – this might actually be a net positive. Done right, we can: • Reduce low‑value admin and form‑filling • Focus people on high‑judgement, high‑risk decisions • Make sites safer and more productive at the same time The big questions for me are: • How do we redesign roles, training and career paths around this shift? • Where do we deliberately keep humans in the loop, regardless of how capable the AI becomes? • Which organisations will use this to build a safer, higher‑performing culture – and which will just chase headcount reduction? Curious how others in construction, engineering and utilities see this playing out: Do you think a 35% impact on staffing needs in operational and safety‑related roles is realistic – and, if so, is that ultimately good or bad for the sector?

Simon Wright shared thisThe UK isn’t watching the AI race anymore. It’s running it London Tech Week wrapped up with the UK securing over £6 billion in AI investment and around 8,000 new jobs — a serious signal of intent. AMD pledging up to £2 billion over five years, Nebius committing £1.7 billion for AI compute on Nvidia chips, and the government’s £1.1 billion AI Hardware Plan (including £750m for a national supercomputer) puts real infrastructure behind the ambition. Being part of this event and seeing the UK genuinely charge into AI was energising. At Intuety, we’re building on exactly this momentum — using AI to transform how risk safety and knowledge are managed across construction and industrial sectors. . #LondonTechWeek #AI #UKTech #Intuety

Simon Wright shared thisThis one hits close to home. Alzheimer’s has touched my life in many ways . Watching someone you love lose the threads of who they are reshapes how you see time, memory, and purpose. That’s why posts like this matter. Innovation isn’t a buzzword or a path to returns , it’s the reason many have hope. The difference between resignation and possibility. We measure innovation in markets, scale, and ROI. But its truest measure is how it expands what’s possible for human beings, turning “incurable” into “treatable,” and “treatable” into “preventable.” The work at Karolinska Institutet, the FINGERS Brain Health Institute, ATRI, and Keck Medicine of USC is a reminder that the most important breakthroughs aren’t the loudest , they’re the ones quietly rewriting the future for millions of families. Grateful for the researchers and scientists pushing this forward.Simon Wright shared thisI’ve never been more optimistic about the future of Alzheimer’s research. Our understanding of the disease is improving rapidly, and I believe we're close to breakthroughs that fundamentally change how our understanding and management of Alzheimer’s forever. Simon Wright shared thisSome knowledge disappears like marks in the sand. Across the industry, experienced safety professionals are leaving, and with them goes years of site knowledge, risk judgement, and lessons learned the hard way. Once that experience walks out the door, it is not easy to replace. At Intuety, we are focused on helping organisations capture that knowledge before it is lost, so the insight behind good decisions, effective controls, and safer ways of working stays within the business. I have always believed in getting things right the first time. That mindset shapes how we work with customers, from helping teams identify and control risk, to building environmental impact controls into every project. It is about doing the job properly, protecting people, and leaving the site better than you found it.

Simon Wright shared thisSome risks are easy to see. Others only show up when you look closer. At Intuety, we’re using a decade of knowledge to help teams find the missed hazards and weak controls that can sit hidden in everyday safety documents.

Simon Wright liked thisSimon Wright liked thisI have to say, this is something I am particularly excited about.... Especially the AI capabilities!! Having seen such a fantastic customer facing presentation last week from Manish Goyal, it was evident to see how a unified data management platform can offer real efficiencies for real life scenarios. IM Hub provides a single source of truth of all operations in the plant. Intuitive dashboards and insightful visualisations facilitate the identification of actionable insights, enabling data-driven decision-making for process optimisation. In my experience, lots of us collect data, in numerous different platforms... But utilising that data in one pane of glass is where the real value comes in. If you can spare 2 minutes, then I highly recommend taking look at the below. #processoptimisation #datacollection #dataconsumption #efficiency

Simon Wright liked thisSimon Wright liked thisCOMING SOON: Payhembury WwTW: Storm Storage Scheme New case study demonstrating how targeted engineering can enhance resilience and environmental performance at small rural sites. Serving a population equivalent of 450, South West Water's Payhembury STW is constrained by its location within an agricultural setting, with a limited footprint and access via narrow single-track roads. Historically, storm storage provision was limited to just 5m³, leaving the site vulnerable to surcharge during wet weather events and increasing the risk of non-compliant discharges. The scheme increased storage capacity to over 40m³, significantly improving the site’s ability to manage peak flows, while addressing key drivers including regulatory compliance, climate resilience and mitigation of upstream infiltration. A multi-disciplinary optioneering process assessed a range of solutions, balancing hydraulic performance, constructability and carbon. The selected approach utilised modular HDPE storm tanks, offering a compact, low-excavation alternative to traditional reinforced concrete structures. This reduced programme duration, minimised site disruption and delivered measurable carbon savings. A key innovation was the refurbishment and repurposing of the existing storm tank into a storm pumping station, avoiding demolition and reducing embodied carbon. Storm flows are transferred to the new storage tanks and, following storm events, are returned to treatment via a progressive cavity pump, ensuring controlled reintegration without hydraulic shock. Additional upgrades included the installation of a modern overflow screen, improving environmental protection by ensuring all discharges are screened prior to release. Despite logistical and environmental constraints, the scheme was delivered efficiently and to programme. The result is a more robust and compliant treatment works, with enhanced resilience to future rainfall variability. Beyond engineering, the project also delivered ecological value through on-site biodiversity enhancements, demonstrating how even small-scale wastewater schemes can achieve wider sustainability benefits. The successful delivery of the project was made possible through the collaboration of designers, contractors, and specialist suppliers: Galliford Try The LK Group Bailey Partnership Enduramaxx SAVECO Environmental Limited Lintott Control Systems Xylem SEEPEX Burdens R & R Services (Devon) Ltd Spence Crane Hire Ltd The full case study will be published in July.

Institution of Civil… • 7K followers
Collaboration between professional institutions is essential if we are to support the construction, civil and infrastructure engineering sectors to meet the challenges ahead. It was therefore a pleasure to welcome Saul Humphrey 🌍, Senior Vice President of The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), to the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) headquarters recently for a valuable discussion about the industry’s journey to net zero and the leadership role our institutions must play in supporting well-informed decision-making. We discussed how a continued focus on competence is essential. As institutions, we have a responsibility to provide assurance that our members have the skills and capability needed to deliver the infrastructure and buildings society relies upon. We also talked about the value of mandated Continuing Professional Development (CPD) topics. Both institutions have shown leadership here by not only requiring CPD, but by identifying key topics members must cover. This led to an interesting conversation about the government’s consultation on a Single Construction Regulator. While we share some concerns, we agreed that stronger regulation — and the professionalism it encourages — can only strengthen our sector. Collaboration between our two great institutions is vital and we must work together to ensure society has the civil engineering, infrastructure and building professionals needed for people and the planet to thrive. #Leadership #FutureLeaders #YouMeAndICE #InfrastructureEngineering #CivilEngineering #Collaboration #FindYourPlaceInICE
