Rachel Holden posted thisMark Unread I'm a big fan of the 'mark unread' approach. I see something come in on Slack, WhatsApp, wherever, and I don't have time to address it, so I mark it to come back to later. But now every platform I have is a to-do list that I avoid looking at. After my poll the other week, I'm partly relieved to hear I'm not the only one who uses this method, and partly disappointed that it's needed. I find boards great for projects with a deadline, but it always feels like I'm moving my to-do list around instead of actually solving anything. I leave things when they deserve a proper reply, and the important-but-not-urgent tends to wait too long. What is your version of mark unread?

Rachel Holden posted thisAevyn is open for business. For the last few months, I've been working with Anna Keren on a PA service for busy parents, and it's been brilliant. I've learnt so much and had the highs (and lows) of founder life. Today firmly belongs in the high pile. For anyone who hasn't heard me harp on about it yet: Aevyn is an assistant that, for now, lives mostly within WhatsApp and keeps on top of the busy social lives of you and the rest of your family. It isn't finished, and I don't think it can be without hearing more from real users about what they need it to do. So we're opening it up, from a small and lovely test group to anyone who thinks it might be for them. If your WhatsApp inbox is never at zero and you think this could help, I'd love your thoughts. The link is in the comments below.

Rachel Holden shared thisThe UK’s social media ban for under-16s is starting to sound like the end of the world. But perhaps it needs to be viewed as a first - albeit crude - step. Many are pointing out that handing age verification over to companies we already know we can’t trust will only lead to trouble. It’s a fair point, but I’m not sure relying on self-regulation is much better. The Children’s Commissioner for England found that three-quarters of 15 and 16-year-olds had been sent a beheading video. That’s a horrifying number. And according to the testimony of Meta whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams, we know platforms can identify teenagers who are feeling “worthless” and sell them as an advertising opportunity. That wasn’t a problem with moderation; that was the business plan. An age gate alone is not going to fix that. Canada’s Safe Social Media Act, also introduced this month, offers a more considered model: platforms can earn exemptions by meeting specific safety standards. The goal, then, is a better system, not a better bouncer at the door. The argument against government regulation ignores a decade of evidence that these companies will not fix themselves. Incomplete legislation, scrutinised and improved over time, is more useful than the alternative. Rachel Holden posted thisI went to the top of the BT Tower the other week, and it was brilliant. The view was amazing, but the facts are better. I learnt that upon its completion, it was the tallest structure in London and was designed to withstand a nuclear blast. To deal with this, the main body rests on a pyramid atop a concrete raft (it makes me think of turtles all the way down). But more importantly: it was a national secret. A gigantic 177-metre tower in central London. A secret. It wasn’t on any maps, officially denied, not legally photographed. Does this mean if you walked up to a police officer and asked them what it was, they’d have had to say there was nothing there? I’d like to think so.

Rachel Holden posted thisAn old plan for new systems? You have an opportunity to rebuild society exactly as you want it. But there is a catch. You don’t know where you’ll be placed at the end of it. Not your name, your race, your gender - nothing. John Rawls, who wrote about this thought experiment back in 1971, probably wasn’t thinking about AI companies when he did it, but I think it applies. The people currently building the systems know where they land, and that can’t help but influence what gets built. While technology moves faster than regulation, perhaps this idea - that we stand behind a ‘veil of ignorance,’ is where self-governance can start. At the very least, it’s worth asking who benefits from not using it.

I’ve been working toward this for the past three years — accumulating 500+ coaching hours (on top of God knows how many hours I’d already accumulated before formally starting this journey 😅), plus 125+ hours of coach training. I am incredibly proud of myself. This has been one of the hardest journeys I’ve been on in a while. There were plenty of moments when I questioned whether I could do it, but I kept going. And here we are! I’m deeply grateful to the clients who trusted me along the way, especially those who have been with me for years — thank you 🙏🏾. And to BetterUp, where this journey really started after I was invited to join their beta Coaching Foundations program. I honestly don’t know if I would have pursued this path otherwise. A huge thank you to Bryan Hart, MCC, Hannah Finrow, MCC, and Fern Wiley, PCC for being such incredible mentor coaches. And to my Raven Coach Training cohort — especially Jennifer Sherwood, Christopher Butler, Roshini Muralidharan, and Justin Samortin — you all inspire me. Beyond the reciprocal coaching practice hours, I’m so grateful that I got to know you, learn from you, and grow alongside you on a deeper level. It's still weird not to see you all every Tuesday morning after nearly a year together 😅 And of course, my friend — honestly, my sister at this point 😌 — Caren Young. Thank you for always being there for coaching practice, advice, vent sessions, words of encouragement, fun snail mail, and everything in between. You are one of one! I am now Adriele Parker, PCC. Mhmm 😌 I really did that!

Rachel Holden liked thisRachel Holden liked thisSincerest thanks to Heiko Hotz from Google for joining me for a fascinating fireside chat on Agentic Commerce at PI Live 2026… The timing couldn’t have been better, Google just launched their Universal Cart and Checkout in the US, enabling shoppers to use personalised shopping agents to discover, pricewatch and purchase items across retailers. Added to that, there is a wave of momentum in agent powered shopping right now - with many experts closely following how AI influences golden quarter consumer behaviour. In our conversation, Heiko explained that agentic shopping is a key strategic interest amongst C-Level decisionmakers. Some of the biggest questions right now are… 1. What it takes for shoppers to trust agents (think transparency, reliability, decisioning and action traceability). 2. How adoption will might scale at different rates across different purchase types (routine practical items vs luxury high-consideration items) 3. Why it is so important for retailers that shopping agents to purchase items through approved pathways like the Universal Commerce Protocol, rather than navigating webpages with web-browsers designed for people. 4. The critical role of independent experts and content creators in supporting AI driven consumer discovery - and most importantly how Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol is flexibly designed to support touchpoint attribution where brands seek to implement it in the future. The big final recommendation is for brands to start exploring and experimenting with Google UCP as soon as possible. Because who knows… 2027 might just be the year of agentic commerce! More often than not, founders are a bottleneck. So how can you free up more time and be more efficient? I sat down with the amazing Cecilia Brown, who leads Growth and Partnerships at Pickle who are a people-led support service for busy founders and growing teams. On this call we run through:- 👉 At what point does ‘doing it all yourself’ stop being a strength and start becoming a bottleneck? 👉 What should founders look for when choosing operational support and what are the biggest mistakes they make? 👉 With AI and automation evolving so quickly, why does human operational support still matter? If you're a founder or senior operator feeling like minor tasks are stacking up your day, be sure to check out Pickle's profile on Gathr!

Building fast and having balance were never both on the table. You get to pick one. Elysia the founder of Immaculate HQ on work-life balance. Her stance is early on, if you're scaling quickly, every hour belongs to the business, no exceptions. Growing slower is the only version where balance has room to exist. It's a trade-off most founders won't say out loud, speed costs you your time back, and patience buys it. Are you building for speed or building for balance? Pick a side. #Founderfridays #Mangrove #Founderstake #Leadership #Startups

Imagine almost missing out on £1 million because you assumed the call was spam. That’s exactly what happened to one UK family, who ignored calls from the National Lottery for nine days because they thought they were sales calls. That tracks with our State of the Call findings: 86% of unknown calls go unanswered. When people can’t tell who’s calling, they assume it's not worth answering. Then even the calls they really want get missed. That’s the problem Hiya is working to solve: making it easier for people to know who’s calling and feel confident picking up. https://lnkd.in/gZ4d9gtt

When Ben Towers built his first website at the age of 11, he wasn’t thinking about business models or growth strategy. He was a kid who loved computers, teaching himself HTML by copying along with YouTube tutorials. His first client was a family friend who offered to pay him £50 and that single payment reframed everything. Most agency websites say "we create engaging content" on a page that isn't very engaging. The Dubs Agency noticed. To mark their 30th year, they rebuilt their entire site as an interactive Vev experience. Scroll-driven, dynamic, and structured around a story rather than a service list. The decision wasn't just creative. It was backed by data: according to Turtl's research, readers spend 73% more time engaging with interactive content than static. If you're going to make that case to clients, your own site should make it first. Congrats to The Dubs Agency on being our Project of the Month 🏆 link in comments ⬇️

Ahead of Mother’s Day, here’s a founder story worth reading. After watching their mother struggle to return to work despite years of experience, sisters Amelia Miller and Lydia Miller decided to build a solution. That idea became ivee – a platform helping professionals identify the AI skills that actually move careers forward. ⏩ Just 18 months after launching their MVP, they’ve upskilled 70,000 people, secured four offers on Dragons’ Den, and raised a $1m Seed round. They’re closing one of the biggest gaps emerging in the AI economy. A powerful reminder this Mother’s Day that some of the most impactful companies start close to home. 🏠 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/esfYWhwC #FoundersForum #WhereTheFutureUnfolds #TechNews #Startups

The era of glossy pitch decks just ended. 🎭 Cyrus Vantoch-Wood, Founder at Insurgent, breaks down why UK venture capital is abandoning pitch theatre for ventures that actually perform. Here's what will actually get funded in 2026: 🏗️ Builders over storytellers. Concepts and narratives are giving way to ventures that already operate in the real world. Proof trumps promise, every time. 💪 Operational DNA as protection. Studios with builder credentials are now seen as "financial Kevlar." ♻️ Regenerative systems over sustainability buzzwords. Sustainability has become the soggy middle of the menu that few can prove. The common thread? These ventures don't pitch change; they perform it. With restraint, clarity, and results you can feel.
