Ben Board reposted thisBen Board reposted thisI've just concluded a fantastic one year placement as an intern engineer as part of an amazing team at Flix Interactive - gameplay programming, tech design, bug fixing, build engineering, and more 🎉 I'd like to thank everyone I've worked with at Flix for an unforgettable experience, and I'd especially like to thank: - Joshua Cripps for being a wonderful mentor throughout my internship - our 1:1s were always among the highlights of my weeks - Dan Jenkins for being a tremendous manager who taught me a great many new things over my tenure, truly brilliant to work alongside (as well as a real menace on the karaoke mic) - Tristan Lochlund for being a great guiding force during the latter half of my internship, frequently aiding me 1:1 and helping me develop very fruitful skills such as Unreal Insights - Matt Spalding 🔜 XDS / Tokyo Game Show, Jason Cross and John Tearle 🔜 XDS for being such great leaders (as well as people!) who have shown incredible support over the course of my internship 🙏 It's been such a blast working alongside and learning from such fantastic people, and I really hope to get this chance again in the future! 😊

Interested to see where D30 ends up, we don’t see WARDOGS having the same longevity as Helldivers or ARC Raiders, the lack of PVE and how approachable those games are comparatively harms it. But sales are holding as we start getting close to 2.5m units..

In the UK during GDC week, with a nice clear diary. So we have, for a while, reached the episode of “LinkedIn is Facebook” where people who check it every day/multiple times a day, only post about how uncool it is to use it. It’s late-stage social platforming and it’s not just LinkedIn (in fact, in truth it’s not just social platforms, Steam-first marketing is harder to see results from). Fatigue and fragmentation push people toward trusted sources and direct relationships. Teams that invest in owned and earned media, communities, and partnerships weather platform volatility far better than those that rely on single or limited silver bullet channels. We have good case studies on how you can use smart cross-channel strategies to drive wishlists and sales. Get in touch if you want to hear more, this is the perfect week for a conversation.

The UK Video Games Council is pushing for further government support. While tax reliefs are essential, the real crisis we need to address is the talent drain. The UK has a wealth of talent but receives less support than other regions, risking the loss of our best seniors to markets like Canada or the Nordics. From a recruitment perspective, this signals a need for UK studios to focus heavily on retention packages. You cannot rely on "passion" when other countries are offering stability and government-backed incentives. Review your benefits. Review your remote policies. The competition is global. #UKGamesIndustry #TalentRetention
