Wolfson College combines Cambridge traditions with a dynamic and outward-facing view.

About us

As one of Cambridge's newest Colleges, Wolfson is proud to be a modern institution with a pioneering record. We were the first Cambridge College to admit men and women as students and Fellows on an equal basis. Wolfson is cosmopolitan, with 99 nationalities represented among our current students. We are also egalitarian, with no High Table or Senior Combination Room, and all facilities shared between Fellows, staff and students alike. The College is located on Barton Road, just west of Newnham and Selwyn Colleges, and occupies a single, nine-acre site where we accommodate up to 450 students. Our accommodation is presently undergoing a major refurbishment with the help of a substantial grant from the Wolfson Foundation. The College provides tutorial and pastoral support and a wide range of facilities for its 499 full-time and 204 part-time postgraduate students, and 184 mature undergraduate students. There are also seminars put on by the Humanities Society and the Science Society, art exhibitions, concerts and recitals, and a wide range of sporting and recreational activities from rowing, table tennis and basketball to salsa and tango classes, aerobics and Japanese martial arts. • 🎾 Wolfson alumni come together for an exciting day of tennis in Vienna! On Wednesday, 20 Wolfson alumni and friends gathered at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna for an evening of world-class tennis and good company. The event brought together both familiar and new faces, with some guests travelling from neighbouring Germany and Slovakia to join us. With our box overlooking the practice court, guests were treated to an up-close view of Carlos Alcaraz and Ignacio Buse practising, before enjoying some thrilling and closely contested matches, alongside plenty of food, drink and conversation. We're particularly grateful to Wolfson alumnus Karti Chidambaram, without whom the evening would not have been possible. Our thanks also go to Wolfson's Vice-President, Dr Kevin Greenbank, for joining us in Vienna. It was wonderful to see Wolfson's international community coming together once again, and we look forward to more opportunities to reconnect across Europe!

  • Congratulations to Mashrur Arafin Ayon and his co-author Mallika Bandyopadhyay on being Highly Commended for the William Dusinberre Essay Prize 🏆 Both formerly of Hughes Hall, Mashrur and Mallika were recognised by judges at Girton College for their joint essay titled: '“If I Try to Escape”: Women, Slavery, and the Gendered Body in Bengal, c.1694–1843'. Mashrur is now a PhD student in Multi-disciplinary Gender Studies at Wolfson, funded as a Smuts Cambridge International Scholar by the Cambridge Trust and the Smuts Memorial Fund. Mashrur is pictured with Wolfson's Senior Tutor, Dr Judith Bunbury 📸 Mashrur and Mallika said, "We are honoured that our essay has been commended. The history of slavery in Bengal remains little discussed, and the experiences of the women held within it even less so, so it means a great deal to see this history recognised." 👉 Find out more about this year's William Dusinberre Essay Prize: https://lnkd.in/eENTKpD3

Delighted to welcome Hazem Danny Nakib to Wolfson College, Cambridge alongside our Fellow, Professor Jon Crowcroft, to share the nuts and bolts of starting a high potential startup. One of the golden opportunities of our ecosystem is to share the practical wisdom of folks who have been there, done that, and not just once but several times. I always encourage budding innovators to think of their work as a career, not a project. Difficult advice to absorb, when one is filled with passion for the current ambition... but essential to the journey. The session is open in person at Wolfson and online. 4 November, 6pm start. And it's open to anyone. Drink deep! https://lnkd.in/ed77Hage

  • Last weekend, Cambridge University Boat Club fielded a total of six crews across the Championship Eights and Lightweight Fours events at the world-renowned Head of the Charles Race in Boston, MA. We are incredibly proud of the two Wolfson students who represented Cambridge at the competition. Tyler Horler, who is completing an MPhil in Real Estate Finance, rowed in the 6-seat of the men’s A crew which secured a third-place finish – the third consecutive year that the CUBC men’s A crew has ended up on the podium. On the women’s side, Jente Jongsma, who is reading for an MPhil in Biological Science, rowed in the 7-seat of the women’s B crew. They finished as the third fastest B crew on the day, showcasing the depth of the women’s squad as they look towards the 100th Women’s Boat Race taking place on 11th April 2027. Congrats to all the Cambridge crews who raced last weekend. We can’t wait to see what the squads achieve across the rest of the 26/27 season! Photos: AllMarkOne & Vicky Baker Gillard

  • “Around one table you might find someone who has spent a decade in refugee response sitting next to someone starting their first research project, each bringing a different set of stories from a completely different part of the world.” In our latest Scholarship Spotlight, Wolfson PhD student Diana Manucharian reflects on the conversations, connections and diverse experiences that make the College community so special. As the first recipient of the Richard Chancellor’s Journey PhD Studentship in Slavonic Studies, Diana shares how the scholarship has enabled her to continue her journey from journalism in Ukraine to doctoral research at Cambridge, exploring the impact of war and the role of international institutions in conflict-affected countries. 👉 Read Diana’s story and discover the difference scholarships can make: https://lnkd.in/eUMMfYmE
