Happy early Halloween from the SpecialEffect team! 🎃👻 We got into the Halloween spirit in the office this week, with (most of) the team dressing up as some familiar faces from the world of gaming! But who can you spot? 👀 Wishing everyone a spooktacular Halloween! 🕸️
About us
We're a charity that's helping everyone with disabilities to enjoy video games for fun, inclusion and rehabilitation. We know there's no one-size-fits-all way of doing this. That's why we're not about sending out free games or video game equipment. In fact we don't sell anything at all. We visit people to find out exactly what they want to play, and what they need to play it. We'll then lend them the equipment they need, and support them until they can get the best out of it. By committing time, patience and expertise, we can open the door to self-esteem, confidence and a better quality of life.

We had a great time being part of the British Motor Museum Access Day with Playground Games! 🎮 It was brilliant to meet everyone and see visitors trying out Forza Horizon 6 using eye gaze technology and a chin joystick, showing how adapted technology can help make gaming more accessible. A big thank you to Playground Games and the British Motor Museum for having us! 🧡 #BritishMotorMuseum #ForzaHorizon6 #SpecialEffect

Want to find out more about the controls available in Open Drive? 🎮 Our latest video gives an introduction to Open Drive’s controls on iPad and iOS, exploring how the game is designed to be played using the control method you already use to access your device, alongside touch. Supported input methods include Made for iPad eye gaze cameras, mouse, Switch Control, game controllers and keyboards. Open Drive also aims to support built-in accessibility features using your device’s touchscreen, front-facing camera or microphone, including virtual trackpad, head tracking and voice control. When you open the app, Open Drive will recognise your input method and offer the most suitable control mode in-game. Visit our Game Access website to watch the full video and find out more about Open Drive and its range of controls. https://lnkd.in/euM9Fftn #SpecialEffect #GameAccessibility #OpenDrive

Earlier this month, Nomitha, Frankie and Tom attended the Women in Games Awards, where our very own Nomi was a finalist for the Games Campaigner Award! 🎉 It was an honour to be in a room with so many inspiring women from across the games industry, celebrating the people making a difference and helping to shape its future. A huge congratulations to all the winners and finalists, and a special well done to Nomi. Absolutely superb few days at Game Republic New Horizons in Middlesbrough this week representing SpecialEffect! If you’re thinking about going along next year, I genuinely can’t recommend it enough. A brilliant experience with expertly curated events taking place around the main conference at the Riverside Stadium including the brilliant Behaviour Interactive party, meeting the iconic Ken KUTARAGI, a fantastic evening at Level X and a lovely day out at Saltburn Beach. Thank you to Dr Jackie Mulligan and Jamie Sefton for organising such a brilliant event and also, for working with the inimitable Sally Kevan! It was so great catching up with old friends and making new friends throughout the conference and various events plus the closest game of bowling I’ve ever played with Alfie! Special mentions to Jonathan, Zoë, Nick, Stephen, Sarah, Samuel, Gary, David, Ollie for all putting up with my various ramblings about things and/or letting me join you for activities.
