Today, we joined Tanium's UKI Public Sector User Group 2026, bringing together technology and security professionals from across healthcare, education and the wider public sector. The event highlighted the importance of improving visibility, strengthening endpoint control, and protecting the services that communities rely on. We were pleased to hear from Dan Ballinger, PointWire's Expert of Technology, who contributed to the afternoon's discussions with Dan Jones. Through our partnership, we help organisations move from fragmented visibility to greater control, clearer insight and more practical security outcomes. Thank you to the Tanium Public Sector team for a valuable afternoon! #Tanium #PointWire #PublicSector #CyberSecurity #Healthcare #Education #EndpointManagement

Your attack surface is growing faster than your security team 🔒 Every new device, application, account, and AI-enabled workflow introduces potential exposure. Meanwhile, security leaders increasingly recognise the challenge ahead. 87% identify AI-related vulnerabilities as the fastest-growing cyber risk, while 94% believe AI will be the most significant driver of change in cybersecurity. For CISOs, the response isn't simply adding more tools. It's knowing: ✔ What assets exist ✔ Which assets are compliant ✔ Where vulnerabilities are concentrated ✔ How quickly risks can be reduced Awareness is the first step in reducing the attack surface. https://lnkd.in/ed-_9MnQ Get in touch with PointWire for an intro call about how we can reduce your attack surface: contact@pointwire.com | +44 1223 455 185 #CyberSecurity #CISO #Governance #RiskManagement #EndpointSecurity

AI can now find thousands of vulnerabilities in days. Fixing them is still the hard part. 🛠️ Tanium just joined Anthropic's Project Glasswing, using Claude Mythos to scan its own codebase before attackers do. Sensible move, and a good example of AI being put to practical use rather than just talked about. But the numbers behind the wider programme tell a bigger story. Across 1,000+ open source projects, Claude Mythos found an estimated 6,202 high or critical severity vulnerabilities. Of the 530 formally disclosed to maintainers so far, only 75 have been patched. That's not an AI problem. It's a capacity problem. The same acceleration is showing up on the offensive side too, average time from disclosure to exploitation is now under a day, down from 2.3 years in 2019. Our CSO Richard Thompson's take: "It shows Tanium isn't just talking about the potential of AI in security, it's actively using it to strengthen the security of its own platform and, ultimately, better protect its customers." The takeaway for security teams isn't to wait for better tooling. It's to build the process capacity to act on what AI surfaces, faster patch cycles, stronger foundational controls, and a clear view of what's exposed before someone else finds it first. Microsoft just broke its own record. September's Patch Tuesday addressed 974 vulnerabilities, smashing past July's previous high of 570 and making this the largest single Patch Tuesday release in the programme's history. The headline numbers: 104+ rated Critical, 723 affecting Windows alone, and two zero-days already under active exploitation in the wild before today's fix landed. Both exploited flaws are elevation of privilege bugs, one in the Windows Update Stack, one in Windows ALPC, and both are now on CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list. With 2026's year-to-date total already past 2,600 CVEs, more than double the previous full-year record set in 2020, volume alone isn't a strategy. Patch by exposure, not by count. Prioritise the two actively exploited zero-days first, then work through Critical severity issues on anything internet-facing or tied to Windows Update infrastructure. If you need help triaging this release or want a clearer view of what's actually exploitable in your environment, get in touch. #PatchTuesday #CyberSecurity #VulnerabilityManagement

A UK power generation site was reportedly offline for four days in July after a cyberattack linked in media coverage to foreign state hackers. The government has confirmed an incident, not the attacker or the method. What is already clear: less visible infrastructure can still cause real disruption when it's compromised. That's true well beyond energy, in utilities, manufacturing, transport, and healthcare too. The practical question for security teams isn't who did this. It's whether you'd see it coming.
